Sorry this is a long one

Hi I’ve been back and forth to the hospital over the last two weeks. I found out I was pregnant on Monday the 12th of December (a test I took on the 10th was negative) I then had a scan on Friday the 16th of December to date my pregnancy (I worked out I should have been 5 weeks as my last period was on the 11/11/2022) but they failed to see a pregnancy and told me to come back on the 23rd for another scan. On Monday the 19th I started experience left side pain mainly under my ribs and lower back pain. It got worse over the next couple days so on Wednesday the 21st I returned to the EPU and they rescanned me (again they couldn’t find any sign of a pregnancy) they took bloods which came back that my hcg levels were 324 and asked me to return on Friday the 23rd for further bloods. I got a call today (24/12/22) telling me my bloods have risen to 403 but not how they would like them to so asked me to come down this morning for a further scan. (should be 6weeks ish)
The doctor again couldn’t locate a pregnancy and couldn’t see anything in my tubes. He did however see a small dot which he said could be a sac. I have been asked to return tomorrow on Christmas Day for more blood tests and he said they will continue to monitor my bloods and rescan me until they know what’s happening but he said he thinks I will end up losing this baby.
This is what he wrote in my notes:
”There was a small sac like structure seen at the fundus of the endometriu, It measures 1.7mm3 in mean sac diameter. No yolk sac or fetal pole seen. This may or may not be a very early gest sac. Based on her SBHCG trend, even though after 48 hours there was a very small increase, there is a risk of ectopic preganncy. Risks of internal bleding, collease, emergency surgery explained.”

Has anyone experienced the same thing where they couldn’t detect a pregnancy and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy or did it end in miscarriage or etopic pregnancy?

Sounds similar to my ectopic, sorry. They never positively identified where it was but my HCG dropped and then rose quickly with nothing in the uterus.

lemonyfox · 24/12/2022 21:23

Sounds similar to my ectopic too, I would have been quite far along around 10 weeks and even then they struggled finding it on my tube on the scan. They diagnosed it through slow rising HCG blood tests, multiple spaced over 6 days too.

Sorry you're going through this - happy to answer any questions if you'd like, if it does end up being ectopic.

Lanty · 24/12/2022 21:26

My guess would be ectopic too based on my own experience; really sorry you're going through this and hope you get an answer soon x

@Lanty @Rtmhwales @lemonyfox Thankyou all for your replies
We’re any of you given the injection or did you have to have surgery ? How were your all treated in the end ? I’m travelling abroad on the 26th (against the docs advice) as it’s my childrens Xmas present. Only driving across the channel for a few days so they did say if needed to then get to a hospital quickly and make sure I’m insured while there but they can’t stop me from going. Just wondering if I’m making a big mistake considering they cannot see any signs of a bleed or pregnancy yet

Sounds very similar to my ectopic unfortunately. Nothing was seen on scans and my hcg was increasing only by a couple of hundred every 2-3 days instead of doubling. Had emergency surgery, pregnancy was located and had one fallopian tube removed. Fingers crossed that this is not the case for you OPFlowers

buttermut · 24/12/2022 22:58

To add, I was about 8 weeks along and started having brown, watery discharge and pain similar to what you've described which led me to being seen in the EPU. I had emergency surgery about a week later if I remember correctly.

See how tomorrow goes. I would strongly advise you listen to the doctors though.

@buttermut Thankyou for sharing your experience and sorry for what you went through. Im just praying I can hold out until the 29th when I’m back from Disney. I think I may end up having to have the same thing by the sounds of it 😣

I hope you will be able to make it to Disney tooFlowers

They may still be unsure of exactly what's happening tomorrow, perhaps they'll do the bloods and say they'll be in touch with the results (this was my experience) which may buy you some time. Just make sure you have insurance and have researched the closest hospital to Disney.

If you do need to have surgery, I didn't find the physical part of healing too bad. It was laparoscopic, 4 incisions and I stayed in for one night. Fingers and toes crossed for you🤞

Do you have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies? Just thinking if you need to have surgery or if the doctors strongly advise you not to leave the country then you could claim on the insurance and reschedule the trip. I know it'll be disappointing but your health is always a priority.

Tjsmummy081112 · 24/12/2022 23:25

@buttermut
thankyou so much.
they said because it’s Christmas and because of the early closure tomorrow in the EPU I probably won’t get my results until the 26th in the afternoon (we leave in the morning on the 26th) and they will probably invite me back for a further scan and more bloods every 48hours for now, so im hoping if I skip the one on the 27th and go straight in when im back on the 29th all should be okay 🤞🏻. Il just take it easy at Disney and no big rides just the slow family ones for me.
xx

I think you'll be ok for Disney then if they've already given you an idea of the plan moving forward. As you say, take it easy at Disney and if anything changes while you are there, go to a hospital asap. I hope you have a wonderful trip! Update us if you'd like to share how things go xx

And I have travel insurance with my bank but I booked and paid for everything separately (ferry, park tickets, two hotels etc) some are non refundable like the park tickets and the fact we haven’t bought the kids anything else they are opening their suitcases and tickets tomorrow morning for their Christmas presents alongside all the bits we’ve bought them to travel with 😩 been planning this since may so it’s just a disaster this has happened now 😭

Aah 😕 I completely understand your predicament. Such unfortunate timing but hopeful that you'll still make it. If you're having bloods tomorrow, they'll probably want to retest on the 28th/29th and you'll be back for that😊

sorry I know It’s Christmas Day but I thought I was send an update. I started miscarrying today. I went to the hospital for the bloods and I was bleeding they checked me over and told me I would probably lose the fetus as my cervix was open not closed rather than an etopic pregnancy and I not long passed the fetus with a trip to the toilet 😭 Thankyou all for your kind messages. Lineeyes222 · 26/12/2022 07:34

Hi OP, so sorry you're going through this. Please be careful about travelling today as going against doctors advice effectively invalidates your insurance. If you make a claim, they will definitely look at your history and most likely won't cover you as you knew you could need emergency surgery before you travelled. It's not worth risking it, in my opinion.

Lineeyes222 · 26/12/2022 07:35

Sorry I posted before seeing your update. So sorry you're going through this during the holidays. Must be so tough. Sending love.

Hey sorry I'm a bit late in replying.

I had the injection for mine, 3 doses of methatrexate into my bum! Felt tired for a few days afterwards but that was all.

Mine all happened this time last year too, spent most of NYE in hospital waiting for a diagnoses or something. I'd gone in with what I thought was a miscarriage (passing a lot of strange period material), didn't even know I was pregnant as I'd missed a period but had loads of negative tests. So I bled for a week or two in total which probably contributed to the tiredness.

I did have to go in for twice weekly and then weekly blood tests for about 6-7 weeks afterwards. They'll test you until your hcg blood tests are reading at zero, to make sure there's no risk of retained pregnancy tissue.

How are you feeling?
