MVA tomorrow

I'm a little nervous about my MVA tomorrow. I had a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks. 5 weeks later and the sac is still intact so I've decided on an MVA under local anaesthetic which is booked in for tomorrow. Just need a little handhold/reassurance that it isn't so bad! Thanks

Hi. I’ve just read your post and I think I am going to opt for an MVA. I’m just wondering If you could tell me anything about it? I am tempted to get medical management but reading up loads about it I could potentially need surgical anyway. I’m just worried it will affect me anyway or reduce my chances of conceiving again. We want to ttc as soon as we can.
I hope you’re well too xx

@Dani46 this is the OP here. Name changed a while back. Sorry for your loss! I found it quite straightforward and no pain. You take some tablets to open the cervix so have to wait around a couple of hours first. When it's time for the procedure they insert a speculum like a smear test. Then inject the numbing stuff into your cervix. I didn't feel it but apparently it does hurt for some. They then insert a vacuum and remove the tissue. Apparently most people feel pain and cramping but I didn't feel anything at all. I bled for a couple of weeks after that but no more than a period. You can get up straight after and walk and drive. Hopefully yours is pain free too!

The procedure itself only took about 10 mins. They didn't want me to have medical management as the sac was big and they said it would be quite painful. The MVA means it's over and done quicker at least.

Thank you! I am in between on either tablets or MVA. Only thing about the tablets is I know there is a chance I may still need surgery. I should have been 9 weeks but baby stopped growing at 7. One thing they said to me today though which worries me is it was only small so may be harder to find xx

I did want to go for medical management initially as I was scared of the idea of an MVA. I probably would have taken tablets if there was an option. I needed a more experienced doctor for the MVA though due to the sac size. Wishing you the best for whatever option you go for. I was glad when it was all done and over x

I’ve decided to go with the MVA. I’m booked in for tomorrow morning. I’m glad because I can finally start to try and be myself again.
thank you too for your help xx

Best wishes for tomorrow! It's not a nice thing to go through but you'll be relieved when it's done. Hopefully you'll be pain free like I was x

Thank you 💜 xx

Hi. Just a quick question sorry, I forgot to ask today when it was all done. Would I class this bleeding as my period? They never mentioned to take a test too in a couple of weeks to check, would I need to do this?
Thankfully too the procedure was ok. Slight cramps now but nothing I can’t manage myself.
thanks too for all your help 💜 xx

Glad it went ok! No not a period, it's just the excess blood and fluid from the baby. I had a period 4 or 5 weeks after the mva x

Hello,

Sorry to jump on this i am booked to have a MVA friday! I wondered how the pain was for it im so scared. Baby stopper hrowing at 6 and half weeks!
Thanks x

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 29/11/2023 16:39

@Hannahmari I had mine 4 weeks ago and there was only one tiny moment that was painful, just as the sac came out. I found it emotionally very hard but physically it was absolutely fine.

Hannahmari · 29/11/2023 16:55

Did you find the pessary helped with the injection to the uterus?

Oh bless you its not nice isit. I just want this to be over but im so terrified for the procedure xxxx

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 29/11/2023 20:03

I didn’t have the pessary I took something that dissolved under my tongue a few hours before the procedure. It was to open my cervix and I assume it worked as there were no issues, the injections were fine (I was really stressed about them beforehand as I hate injections!).
