Hi, sorry, this is lengthy and detailed, also contains description of a pretty horrible miscarraige experience.

I recently had a missed miscarriage and opted for medical management after a few days of nothing happening. I have previously had a natural miscarriage many years ago and all the tissue hadn't cleared resulting in an overnight stay at the hospital a week late and on morphine due to the horrendous pain and being sent home after being given the pills to complete it the next day as still had to pass the sack. Was an awful experience.

This time round I was given the pills on Friday (2days ago) things progressed straight away and I had to use the hospital bathroom where I was already bleeding and passing clots withing 5mins of being sent home. At home the bleeding cramping and clotted continued then the bleeding completely stopped after a few hours. I ended up calling the pregnancy unit twice for advice as the pain became too intense to handle with the pain meds they gave me, I was doubled over in agony with a constant stabbing pain in my bottom, tummy and thighs, I couldn't stand. After 4hours of this I was set to go to hospital as couldn't cope, but the bleeding started again in floods and I passed some clots and the pain left. I fell to my knees and almost passed out, was sick and then bled through on the floor. Had my partner call the unit as I began shaking and felt like I was about to pass out, cold waves surging through my body. Was advised to go to hospital. This was now after midnight. No one could drive me. No taxis were available and I was in a que for an ambulance. The midwife said I was probably experiencing a bit of shock due to the intense experience my body just went through and it was normal but becuae ei had phoned 3times ot was standard procedure to see me. I feel asleep, feel much better and never made the hospital due to transport. A midwife will phine me in the morning to check up on me.

I havnt bled at all since and I am very worried this is a sign that there is more to come. Can people please give me their experiences? I stopped bleeding initially twitg the first miscarraige which was when the tissue was stuck. I dont want to do through this again. I was told to expect to bleed for upto 2weeks. Has anyone else stopped bleeding and been okay?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I had a miscarriage last weekend, which began with four hours of intense, heavy bleeding, shivering (likely from the shock) etc... I didn't vomit, but I needed strong codeine for the pain (paracetamol did nothing), which was also stabbing.

After a few hours it stopped, and what has progressed since has just felt like a period, with occasional large clots passing. There was a pause between the really heavy duty blood loss, and the period-like symptoms.

If you're feeling better now, you might just need to rest at home, unless the midwive thinks otherwise. I hope you're feeling better now. I also considered A&E in the midst of it all, but risked not going, as I feared it might make the whole thing more traumatic.

After the heavy bleeding, I bounced back physically pretty well but hormonally/ emotionally it was a different story. Take it easy, and get lots of rest.

Also meant to say mine wasn't medical management, but I understand it speeds up the process considerably, which might have been what made your symptoms so intense.

Thank you for your reply. Im sorry you went through this. Its hard and im glad I didn't go to hospital as like you said, would have made the experience more traumatic. I have spoken to a midwife today that has suggested I call in the morning as they don't scan over the weekend, she said given the previous history and the fact the bleeding has fully stopped I should be offered to a scan to make sure its completed.
