Positive pregnancy test 3 weeks after ERPC / D&C

I had a mmc when I was 10 weeks pregnant just over three weeks ago now and an ERPC. Two weeks after I took a pregnancy test (but a cheapy £2 one) that was negative. I tested again today with a first response test and it’s positive. Could the first one have been a false negative and just still have hcg from the miscarriage in my system. If so do I need to go back to the hospital to check for retained products?! Or could I possibly be pregnant again this early on?
I’m so confused and don’t really know what to do with myself.

It's possible to be pregnant again that fast especially if you have tested negative. How positive is the FRER? They're v sensitive. I tested positive on frer for 9 weeks after ERCP (same gestation as you etc)

Hey @MrsHf, hope you don’t mind me asking but what was the outcome of this in the end? I have the same situation at the moment except it’s been 4 weeks since D&C. Thank you! :)

MrsHf · 21/12/2022 12:08

@stardust1994 It wasn’t a new pregnancy, it was the FRER still picking up hcg from the miscarriage. Kept testing up until this week and a hcg test is negative but FRER is still positive 6 weeks later!

@MrsHf, wow 6 weeks later and still positive. That's not fun. It's actually been 7 weeks since I was first treated for my miscarriage. I had medical management but it didn't fully work so had the ERPC 3 weeks later. I suspect I have the same situation going on as you to be honest.

Have you had a period yet? I'm wondering if and when mine will show up. I used OPKs once I had a negative test on a clear blue two weeks and it showed me ovulating 9 days ago but not a clue if that was accurate!

stardust1994 · 21/12/2022 12:11

Also thanks so much for responding 😊

MrsHf · 21/12/2022 13:27

@stardust1994 I took an opk a few weeks later and came up glowing positive but apparently that happens if you’ve had a positive pregnancy test, the opk responds to the hcg or something!
I’ve had what I think was a period was still spotting up until 2 weeks ago then had 3 days of heavy bleeding so I’m assuming that was my period. It’s so confusing, I feel like my body is all over the place.

stardust1994 · 21/12/2022 13:32

I feel exactly the same @MrsHf. When I stopped the pill it took me 9 months to get my period so I clearly don't respond well to big hormonal changes.

Yeah I started doing OPKs after the negative test and they were negative for about 3 days and then positive and then back to negative again.. but I still don't fully trust them.

I should probably just chill out and stop over thinking it and just do another test in a week or so but I feel like a complete pyscho since the miscarriage and will likely end up emptying my bank account to buy endless tests 😂

MrsHf · 21/12/2022 14:10

😂😂 Me too! Stock piling opks and pregnancy test! I just can’t help myself. Hopefully will all start to go back to normal soon for us both 🤞

How’s it going @MrsHf? I’m now 6 weeks post surgery and still no period and still faint frer tests, so annoying! Had my blood tested last week and hcg is at 20 so really hoping it’s not much longer!

MrsHf · 04/01/2023 14:58

@stardust1994 Sounds like the hcg is going in the right direction at least! I’m almost 8 weeks post op now and have just had a period, I stopped testing with the Frer test and just used the cheapy hcg ones which had the faintest positive a few weeks ago and then have been definite negatives since. Fingers crossed all back to normal soon for you 🤞

Thanks @MrsHf. Congrats on getting your period back. What a strange thing to say 😂 this gives me hope that mine will come back too because it’s been 6 weeks for me now so was starting to worry a little.

Best of luck trying to conceive again! Will this be your first? 😊

MrsHf · 04/01/2023 16:10

@stardust1994 I know 😂 like saying “I hope you get your period soon” Sounds very strange too!
Thank you, have already started with the opks, very keen! Just hoping I’ll feel better about the miscarriage when I get pregnant again. I have a little boy already and this is my second miscarriage, what about you?

OP posts:
stardust1994 · 04/01/2023 16:13

Haha don’t worry @MrsHf, I was using them weeks ago which it turns out was totally pointless and confusing as I had a peak 3 weeks ago.. but clearly it wasn’t a real peak 😂 I’m the same. I feel like I need to be pregnant again to feel better again which probably isn’t great 🤦‍♀️

Sorry you’ve had 2 losses. Was the first miscarriage before or after your son? I don’t have any children yet. It’s all been very strange. I never got my period back after the pill and then somehow got pregnant after 6 months! Really hoping my period comes back faster this time…

MrsHf · 04/01/2023 17:53

@stardust1994 First loss was before my son, same sort of thing missed miscarriage found out at 8 weeks but was measuring 6. Had a d+c then too and then got pregnant with my little boy 10 weeks later! Hopefully will be the same for you 🤞🤞 They say you’re more fertile after a miscarriage so here’s hoping for us both!

OP posts:
stardust1994 · 04/01/2023 18:03

Sounds pretty similar @MrsHf. Mine measured 6.5 weeks and was found at 10 but I reckon it would have taken ages to happen naturally.

Hope you don’t mind me asking but what happened after your D&C? Did you get your period in those 10 weeks? I would love if the same thing happened to me but don’t want to get too excited 😂

I’ve also heard this so yes deffo fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞

MrsHf · 04/01/2023 21:25

@stardust1994 I think I had 2 periods in those 10 weeks if I remember right, but then conceived on day 8 of my cycle! So ovulated at a weird time because I usually ovulate on day 14. I think after a miscarriage your body doesn’t know what’s going on! I really hope it’s quick for you 🤞🤞

OP posts:
stardust1994 · 05/01/2023 13:25

Me too @MrsHf. I’m getting those annoying flashing faces on my CB OPKs at the moment.. but I’m not hugely excited because I had these 3 weeks ago and a peak yet no period 🤣 so not convinced by their accuracy anymore!

I also had yet another blood test today so really hoping the hcg is lower than 20 which is what it was last week 🙏

Hope everything is going well for you! I’m currently planning a holiday for Feb in an effort to distract myself 🤣🌴

stardust1994 · 16/01/2023 17:51

Hey @MrsHf, how's it all going?

MrsHf · 16/01/2023 18:10

@stardust1994 Hey! Currently in tww, did opks and seemed to have ovulated 8 days ago so just waiting a couple more days to test. Longest two weeks of my life! How about you??

OP posts:
stardust1994 · 16/01/2023 18:34

Me too @MrsHf! According to opks and bbt I ovulated 3 days ago. Although, I'm not 100% certain as last time I had a positive opk was 3 weeks after the miscarriage and it wasn't a real surge but hoping this one is! 🤞

Really hope you get your bfp. Let me know when you do decide to test. I'm sooo bad for early testing. Last time I tested at 10 dpo and probably would have earlier if I hadn't have been out of the country and unable to 🤣

MrsHf · 16/01/2023 22:48

🤞🤞🤞 Everything crossed for us both this month, I’ve heard you’re more fertile the first 3 months after a miscarriage so that’s giving me hope! Me too, I’m restraining myself so much but will probably crack on day 10 with a frer 😂

OP posts:
stardust1994 · 17/01/2023 15:51

I really hope that's true @MrsHf . Well day 10 is tomorrow for you! How exciting 🤩 I'm 4 dpo and I feel like time is going soooo slowly. With the mmc I had symptoms super early from about 9 dpo - admittedly these symptoms might have just been normal luteal phase symptoms. But now I feel like unless I get symptoms I'll be convinced it's a no this month.

MrsHf · 17/01/2023 17:59

@stardust1994 the tww before I got pregnant the last time I had no symptoms at all! At the moment I swear I’m feeling a bit nauseous but not sure if I’m imagining it. I had that with my ds 3 days before bfp I had a huge wave of nausea so got everything crossed for this time. Did a cheapy hcg this afternoon because I cracked was bfn (obviously), got 2 frers left so not sure to do tomorrow or 11dpo just so I don’t waste them. Hope you’re doing ok, goes sooo slowly doesn’t it! Plan lots in the next week to keep your mind busy, impossible to not think about it though isn’t it.

OP posts:
stardust1994 · 17/01/2023 18:09

Ok, well it's reassuring to know that bfps happen with no symptoms. Also, I am literally 4dpo so don't know what kind of symptoms I could possibly even be experiencing at this point anyway 😂

I feel like I am slowly going insane to be honest. If I could have seen myself a year ago I would have laughed.

I can never test in the afternoon. I drink so much water that my pee is like water! It's bad enough having to semi-dehydrate myself for those OPKs.

Hmm probably better to wait and test at 11dpo but I'd be a total hypocrite if I said that was what I'd actually do. This time next week I'm sure I'll be peeing on sticks every 5 minutes.

And yes, it's hard not to constantly think about potential symptoms. Think I'll have to plan stuff for after work next week so I don't keep falling down holes in the internet. My google search history must be absolutely hilarious.

MrsHf · 17/01/2023 18:26

Don’t worry I’m right there with you, we’ll go mad together 🙈 I wasn’t this bad after my first miscarriage while trying for ds, I don’t know why but this time it’s just hit me harder and now I’m just obsessed with getting pregnant again. Last cycle I tested 3 times a day for a week 🤦🏻‍♀️
With symptom spotting at 4dpo I think all logic goes out of the window and every little thing becomes a sign! I’ve been doing the same since 1dpo if it makes you feel any better 😂
