Is this normal after an early pregnancy miscarriage?

Morning all,

I had a miscarriage from an early pregnancy starting 17/10. It was heavy, cramps with clots and went on for 10 days. I have no idea how far along I was because we weren’t actively TTC, I found out from a faint positive HPT a week after bleeding started as I knew something wasn’t right & had a gut feeling about what was happening.

I got my first post MC period exactly 4 weeks later. In between this I had cramps, felt unwell and had an electric shock type feeling right up through my vagina on a few occasions and brown spotting about 2 weeks after. My first period started off as brown blood with clots, then went on to be heavier with bright red blood. A lot of cramps. Only lasted 4 days and I thought it was over, had a bleed free day then last night I had terribly strong cramps that had me in tears and thick brown stringy discharge. Sorry for TMI. Is this normal?

I just want it to stop, even though we weren’t TTC it’s really affected me both physically & emotionally and every symptom and the bleeding is just a reminder. Doctor said it’s ‘normal’ after a MC but I would really like reassurance from others who have been through it.

thank you

Hello,
I’m so sorry you went through this. I hope you are doing okay? I think I’ve had a miscarriage post IVF. I would be 6 weeks today. Had no cramping or heavy bleeding but have had brown discharge and stringy bits of dark blood. Can’t find out for another 10 days. Going mad, just want to know now.

I’d be phoning your equivalent of the early pregnancy advice unit. You may have some retained tissue that is causing this which could lead to serious infection if left untreated.
The GP is right, it can lead to messed up periods but it wouldn’t hurt to get a second opinion.

Did you take a pregnancy test and get a negative tesult 2 weeks after your miscarriage?

My first period after mc was about 4 weeks and mostly normal, maybe lasted a bit longer than normal, but I'd had to have a surgical follow - up.
