2nd D&C -UCLH

I lost my first baby at 6w+5d in March and had D/C because it was a mmc. After few months, I got pregnant again but yesterday we learnt that baby’s heartbeat stopped at 9th week.

It was a big shock and I am devistated.
However, I need to make a decision.

Doctor in UCLH has confirmed that having a 2nd (or more Idk) D/C does not raise the risk for scarring etc.

Is there anybody who had D/C in UCLH ?
How was it ? Did they prescribes antibiotics afterwards ?

I am sending lots of hugs who struggles during TTC/pregnancy journey..

I’m so sorry for your losses. I recently had an ERPC at UCLH ( think ERPC is the same as D/C ? it’s the surgical management ). I was extremely anxious as had this procedure twice before and was also worried about scarring and everyone there was very gentle and compassionate. I also had a follow up scan three weeks after the op (this was actually to check on another issue I had related to clotting, nothing to do with the op) and they checked for scarring as well and everything was fine. My experience at UCLH was much better than the Whittington which is where I had my previous ERPCs.
I didn’t have any antibiotics afterwards as everything went to plan.
I feel for you, it’s such an awful thing to go through. Sending you strength and I hope everything goes well.

Hi,
I had just had my 2nd D/C (the 1st was 3 months ago) but at St Thomas. Dr did say there is a slight increase in the chance of scarring. But as the previous time, the procedure was done quick and pain free. I’m not sure if I can have another one if it happens again. So I’ll stop TTC until I’m physically and mentally repaired…

@CJStar thank you for replying. I am very sorry for your losses and I also feel for you. I had my procedure last week and I was happy with the attitude of the all staff. According to my report I lose much blood then expected but physically good now. Emotionally not very good, probably time will help..
I wish a very healthy pregnancy for both of us (all of us)for the next time..

@Anusername thanks for your response. I am bit confused now as a few doctor I talked said the erpcs(d&cs) are independent from each other and all have the same kind of risk.. they may have different approaches Idk.. all I know is experiencing this is very hard and now I am shivering even I think about going to an ultrasound scan. I hope we all feel better physically and mentally soon.
I send you strength and love..

It’s such a difficult time. I’m still crying at times due to disbelief. Will you consider having some tests done?

I've had two, for the same reasons as you. Both disovered at the 12 wk scans. Very sorry for your losses.

I then went on to have three healthy pregnancies. I researched after the second loss, and after two it's still statistically far more likely to be bad luck (for want of a better phrase) than anything more serious.

I hope that's true for you too.

Push for an early scan next time as the wait for the 12 wk one will be tough.

All the best.

@Salinger26 I'm glad your procedure went well. It really is such an awful time after though, emotionally recovering from it all. I am now 4 months on from my procedure and just starting ttc again. The thought of ever having an ultrasound again is still terrifying but I now feel strong enough. As time passes I hope you find the strength too. Did you know at UCLH you can have an early scan at 7 weeks if you have had a miscarriage previously? They said to just go to the EPU and they will do it.
I hope all of us who find ourselves in this awful situation get to have our rainbow babies soon xxx
