Still bleeding after surgical management

Hi all. I attended my 12 week scan in September to be told there was no heart beat, and baby grew to 11+3. I had surgical management nearly 5 weeks ago for MMC. Prior to this I had medical management over 4 days which failed, hence going with the surgery eventually. I have bled every day since. Week 3 I took a home pregnancy test as advised by the hospital and it was negative. I did 3 in total, all negative. I had a scan with EPU on Friday and they said they could see something the size of a grape that i still needed to pass (baby, sac etc was confirmed removed during surgery and sent for testing). The doctor believes this is a clot and will pass naturally or when I have a period. Has anyone experienced this or the bleeding going on for this long? I can’t even tell if I am having a period as I haven’t stopped bleeding yet. TIA

Hi, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I bled for 4 weeks after my surgical but the only difference was I had a strong positive test still, I had retained products & had to have the procedure repeated. Bleeding tailed off quite quickly & my test is very nearly negative now a week after the second surgery. Still bleeding is definitely not common I wouldn't say.

If they've seen something on the scan I guess they're reasonably confident it will pass naturally but completely appreciate how much in limbo this leaves you & unable to move on. If the bleeding continues I guess I'd be pushing EPU for any other options to help get rid of it & back to normal if letting nature take its course is not working. They may not be able to do anything but I don't think I'd be happy to just keep on waiting without at least asking.

Sending hugs & hope it can be resolved for you soon

If you're having a negative test then it's likely they're right that it's a clot, and it will almost definitely pass with your next period. I'm sorry, it's such a hard time.
