MMC- empty sac

I went for an early private scan last week and they found an empty sac measuring 5 weeks. I should have been just over 8 weeks based on my LMP and was prepared for anything low as 7... I called the EPU the next morning who have booked me for another scan this coming tues.... I've pretty much accepted this isn't a viable pregnancy but keep overthinking/ second guessing that the scan could be wrong. I've had 0 pregnancy symptoms apart from a little bloating and now have v light brown discharge. Has anyone had any exp of this much of a discrepancy in expected dates and measurements? What were the next steps?

Hi I have recently been through this and I'm sorry to say mine was a blighted ovum. I had a private scan at 8+3 then two further scans with the EPU before they confirmed a miscarriage. They couldn't confirm on the first scan as the sac has to be a certain size so I had to go back to see if there was any progress incase my dates were wrong which I knew they weren't. I opted to wait for it to happen naturally and I started bleeding last Monday so I would have been about 12 weeks. I did look for lots of stories online and there were a very miracles but these were very few. There are quite strict guidelines in the UK about when they will diagnose and empty sac as a miscarriage unfortunately it means a lot of waiting

Hey op. I'm sorry it's Tuesday and I didn't see this post earlier. You have my sympathies. In 2020 I went for my 12 week scan which found a sack with no baby and put to be a blighted ovum

I am here if you'd like to chat x

Hey I went through something similar recently too. Naturally didn’t start bleeding to which would have been 9 weeks but looks like things hadn’t progressed after 5/6 weeks. Found out at private scan also. Heartbreaking and a rubbish few weeks ahead waiting in limbo for scans and to start naturally is rather awful so be kind to yourself allow people to look after you and take time out from life in general work etc x

I went through this nearly 30 years ago. Sorry to say it wasn’t a good outcome, but I now have 2 lovely daughters (eldest born just 12 months later). It’s really hard so look after yourself x

I have just experienced this...empty sac at 7 wk private scan. Had to wait 10 days for sac to reach legal size to confirm miscarriage for a rescan and eventual confirmation.

I opted for the d&c (surgery under general) to get rid of the sac & pregnancy tissue & im so glad I did. It's very simple surgery I was out within a few hours & had very little bleeding after. I think the speed of the physical recovery helped me in that I could just focus on the emotional side which I'm stil dealing with.

So sorry you're going through this I wouldn't wish it on anyone Flowers

Thanks all for your supportive messages, I went for a scan at the epu last Tuesday. They confirmed that things looked the same as the private scan and they wanted to see me again in a week- I go back again this coming Friday. They mentioned taking a urine sample and bloods but did neither. I had a very heavy bleed and cramps on Friday eve so now just hoping nature has run it's course and no further intervention needed rather than prolonging all of this any longer
