Hi All,
Just sharing this in case it helps anyone else. I know while I've been going through this I've googled EVERY story to try to understand what others' go through.
I was 9 weeks along and had my third scan. First was at 7 weeks and we couldn't find the heartbeat but had all makings of pregnancy, second was at 8 weeks and we saw a heartbeat but baby was measuring small (only measuring at 6 weeks and 1 day) and my third and final was at 9 weeks and sadly the heartbeat disappeared as baby had stopped growing.
That day I immediately went to a walk in appointment at the Early Pregnancy Unit (@ NHS Hospital) as I was having private scans done. They confirmed same findings via scan and gave me the three options of 1. Waiting to naturally pass, 2. Taking Misoprostol Vaginally that Day or 3. Being scheduled for a D&C surgery later in the week. Given I wanted to be done and move on, I chose to take Misoprostol that day.
That night I had terrible cramps, a pain I've never experienced and vomiting right on cue 4 hours after getting the inserts. The pain was intense for about an hour and I passed a few clots. The pain then subsided and by the next day the bleeding had turned to light spotting. I was thrilled as the bleeding was light for the following week and I figured I had finished.
1.5 weeks later I began to bleed heavier again and get cramps. The bleeding started to be period like, and the next day I began passing HUGE clots. There was a period of time where I went through 6 pads in 1.5 hours and would have to sit on the toilet to allow for large clots to pass. There was definitely at least 20X the volume of pregnancy tissue coming out this time versus after taking the Misoprostol.
After this episode the bleeding went back to being light spotting for another 1.5 weeks. However at this point I was concerned that I was still bleeding after 3 weeks and went into the Hospital for another scan. They confirmed that I still have pregnancy tissue in the womb and that they don't think it would be a good idea to wait until my next period to see if it "releases".
Now I am scheduled in for a D&C under local anesthesia on Monday (4 weeks after taking initial Misoprostol). The details of this surgery are: I go to the hospital in the morning and they insert a rod to dilate my cervix. I then return to the hospital ~5 hrs later in the afternoon for local anesthesia and to get the remaining tissue removed.
Wish me luck that this is hopefully the end of it. Feeling like I got short end of the stick after having experienced all three initial options of how to miscarriage in one go! However, we're eager to begin to TTC again and hoping it will be all worth it for our first baby ❤.
