When did you start taking progesterone?

Progesterone Q.....I've had 3 miscarriages (a few days, 5.5 weeks, 11 weeks) over a year. All my blood tests and scans are fine and I already have had a 3 year old with no probs in that pregnancy.

After a long wait for the recurrent miscarriage clinic I've gone to see a private specialist with all my blood tests who has said "go on progesterone the minute you are pregnant" (eg 14 DPO)
However, I've seen that some people are prescribed progesterone from 2 DPO.

I'm interested in this as I had all the pregnancy symptoms last month then had a late period and negative test. I can't help thinking it could have been a pregnancy and would it have stuck with progesterone.

Has anyone else been prescribed progesterone for natural conception after miscarriage? If so, from when? And by who? (GP, Early pregnancy unit etc) Will I have to pay private prescription charges or will I be able to get from my GP?

Any help so welcome! TIA xxx

Hi there, I took progesterone for the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy. I initially took it for 2 weeks before my period was due but stopped when I got my period. I done that for 3 months and was then told to only take it from the day I done a positive pregnancy test.
I was prescribed it by my GP (who had received a letter from the specialist I saw) and I'm in Scotland so there wasn't a charge.
I was prescribed progesterone and steroids following 4 pregnancy losses. Wishing you the best of luck!

I went on progesterone at week 7 to 15.

I was at a recurrent miscarriage clinic after being referred. We kept the appointment due to having so many losses, we were not sure we were going make it with that pregnancy. So she gave us the progesterone then. Gp had refused to prescribe it previously.

I would take from 14 dpo

Hi @CFCFHT

First of all I’m so sorry for your losses. It’s such a hard thing to go through. I’m in a similar situation to you in that I’ve had 3 mc over the last 18 months (4 weeks, 9 weeks, 5.5 weeks). After my 2nd mc I was prescribed progesterone suppositories to take once I had a bfp. However, after my 3rd mc last month, my doctor told me to start taking my progesterone suppositories after ovulation and then stop if not pregnant or continues to 12 weeks if pregnant. I get these prescribed by a consultant gynaecologist who specialises in fertility. I pay to see him privately as the wait on the nhs was so long.

I’ve read that you have to be careful taking progesterone around ovulation because if you take it too early then it can actually stop you ovulating properly. So I’m taking mine 3dpo. My doctor seemed confident this could help any fertilised embryo implant properly, especially after my issues of recurrent early losses. Hope this helps you, and good luck in your journey ❤️
