Pregnancy after D&c

Wonder if anyone has had this experience I found out my baby had no heart beat at 11 weeks and 4 days at the start of last month had my d&c took a pregnancy test to make sure all the hcg levels had gone had 4 negative tests then started to get symptoms again so took a early detection test a week and a half after and theres a faint line is it a new pregnancy or could it still be the old one I don’t want to get to excited and then be disappointed when it could be the old pregnancy xx

@Katiem21 were the tests you got negatives on early ones? I had negatives on normal tests much earlier than early detection ones, the lines stayed faint for a while!
hoping for you it is a new healthy pregnancy though xx

Katiem21 · 06/09/2022 20:22

Yes they were just normal ones they they were negative I'm ordering some early detection ones for tomorrow but I'm not sure if they'd come back positive xx

If it comes back stronger you'll know its a new pregnancy.

Also my first pregnancy ended in a mmc followed by a erpc, my following pregnancy was successful xx

It was a worrying time but would not have it any other way

Katiem21 · 06/09/2022 20:25

And I took one on a early detection one that was negative also x

At first I had a horrible metallic taste and now I'm having trouble swallowing I'm having hot sweats I thought it was covid but tests are negative
And I'm so glad you've got your rainbow baby xx

I had a similar experience and for me it was just the HCG from the previous pregnancy causing the positive test. My local hospital did an ultrasound to check since they wanted to see if there was anything remaining from the previous pregnancy causing the HCG to remain higher (sorry if that's a bit hard to hear, I don't know how to write that more sensitively).

Like pp said, if the tests get stronger, that's more likely to be a new pregnancy. But your local EPU might scan you or test you like mine did - although not positive for me that time, it was still reassuring and helpful.

I also just wanted to say I'm so sorry this is happening to you, missed miscarriage is so cruel and I'm sorry for your loss. Sending you lots of love from afar.

Got an update I took one today and the lines a lot darker then the one I took last week I don't know if it's still my old pregnancy but after my d&c I did take tests and they was all negative haven't got a positive on any of them except last week if anyone could give me some advice it'd help xx

If it's darker I'd say it's a new pregnancy... can you get doctor to take your bloods and see if HCG is rising?

I'm so sorry for your loss and I hope you get your rainbow 🤞🏼

MrsU2022 · 08/09/2022 20:15

I had similar. Sadly wasn't a new pregnancy and I had retained tissue. I got varied results from different pregnancy tests due to different sensitivity of the tests.

You really need to speak to your epu and see what they advise.

Fingers crossed for you x

I can ring and ask but my doctors aren't very good when do you think I should do another to make sure? I don't want to get too excited but I've been feeling off lately xx

I'm so sorry to hear that I hope you get your rainbow baby soon 🤍 and I might wait abit longer to do another one do you think? See if it is I waited a week nearly and the test is darker should I wait another? Xx

To be honest- I'm a serial tester but I'd say every two days is a known good gauge

If they can't help you, call local EPU- and stress that you think you may have retained tissue- with it being this long it could be dangerous so they would likely want to check it out and they'd test your HCG for you

Didn't know it was dangerous I'm pretty sure when I had my d&c they said they had got literally just about everything but I'll check again in a few days if the test stays the same I'll contact them I've not been in any pain just a little cramping that's it xx

Sorry I don't mean to scare you. There's a risk of infection but I'd like to think with a d&c it's highly unlikely
Good luck xxx
