FR - false negatives?! Help!

Hello,

I had a MC in June and since then we've not DTD (we've had a lot of family problems leading to us not being in the mood at all).

I've just done a FR (out of curiousity as I've been feeling a little sick etc). Here's the result. I did a Boots one to compare...light positive. I've just finished ovulating (or I'm ovulating today) and have had periods since June.

Can someone shed some light on this before I rush out after work for a Clearblue digital?!

FR - false negatives?! Help!

Just realised that should say false positives...not false negatives.

Hi OP, hopefully I can bump this for you, but as far as know, as long as these have been viewed within the time limit (I.e. so not evap line), false positives are less than 1%

So you have had literally zero sex since miscarriage? In that case I would contact the pregnancy services as this looks like retained products of some kind? Took me 10 weeks to test negative after MC.

Zero unprotected sex, yeah.
I had a private ultrasound after my last miscarriage to check for structural issues etc and she didn't mention noticing anything. Surely any tissue would have come out with my periods too?

I've done Clearblues this evening and they're negative...very confusing!

Worth getting some follow up from gp etc @JuniperandI as it's rare but some medical diagnoses can cause false positives! Weird that two different test types were positive

Ovulation and pregnancy hormones are very similar. I know of people who use ovulation sticks to test for pregnancy when they have run out - actually one woman I know had her dates way off, as she did an ovulation test that showed positive, so assumed she was ovulating (as you would), but it was actually picking up a pregnancy (she had very irregular cycles so wasn't to know). I wonder if something similar could happen the other way round (that is, pregnancy tests picking up ovulation)?

Did you get any negative tests after your MC but before today? If so, would suggest not retained products I assume (as would have been continuous positives throughout). Would defo test again in a few days, and call GP if still testing positive.

@QS90 I don't think HCG tests will show positive for LH (the pre ovulation hormone), so unfortunately it's not that 😔

Thanks everyone.

I'll test again at the end of the week and go from there.
