Chemical pregnancy?

Hello lovely ladies,

I'm looking for some advice, I'm really confused and don't know what to do.

I ovulated on July 5th, and found out I was pregnant on July 11th by CB pregnancy test. I had all the symptoms upto then, light spotting of brownish colour, sore boobs, mild cramping like weak period pains. When I woke up on July 12th I did a digital CB test which was positive, but I had excruciating pains and went to the doctor as we were afraid it was ectopic. Turned out it was a kidney stone that I was passing (related to current kidney issues) and the doctor confirmed two days later I was about 2weeks pregnant.
Had normal symptoms up until July 19th, which was the day my period would have been expected. I started bleeding on the 19th, had mild cramps with red blood first which got a bit heavier, had some dark red stringy bits and wasn't overly heavy. Not enough to fill the pad but usually just when I wiped. It finished on evening of the 20th. Usually my period is heavyish and 3 days with bad cramps. This didn't feel like a full period.
Took a pregnancy test last night bc I genuinely don't know what is happening, and it came back negative.
Anyone else experience anything like this? I imagine it is probably a chemical pregnancy :(
Thanks gals
Ali x

Hi Ali,

I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. I am also going through something similar. I found out that I was pregnant on Sunday 10th July and I was around 5 days late on my period. My partner and I were over the moon after trying since January and we got so excited for the future. I did 4 pregnancy tests and they were all strong positives, I think I was around 2/3 weeks pregnant based on when I ovulated but I was around 4.5 weeks from my last period (I know that they usually calculate it from your last period so I think I was 4 weeks pregnant). I didn't have many symptoms yet but my boobs were really really sore and felt swollen. On Saturday 16th I went to the toilet in the evening and I wiped and saw quite a lot of blood, I instantly panicked however my partner was trying to reassure me that it could be an implantation bleed etc. By the time the morning came I had bad cramps and was bleeding heavily, my boobs had also completely stopped aching. We went to A&E and were referred to the antenatal unit, they did a test which came back negative. I was in complete shock and couldn't understand what had happened. They didn't use the term "chemical pregnancy" however I have done some research and this is what I believe happened. I think what happened to you sounds like a chemical pregnancy too, I just think people react in different ways. I've been bleeding quite heavily for 4 days and today seems to be the first day where it feels like it's coming to an end, so, much like my usual periods. I am so confused about the whole thing, I had actually never heard of a chemical pregnancy before this happened to me but it is apparently very common, although many women aren't even aware it happens or do not speak about it.

A lot of forums online confirm that a chemical pregnancy is not a bad sign and it actually gives people some reassurance that they have the ability to fall pregnant, I've also read that you are more fertile after this happens - however, I am not sure how true this is. Hopefully, you can find a bit of comfort in this. Please feel free to message me if you want to talk.

I know that we will both have healthy pregnancies in the near future!

Lots of love, stay strong!

Hey Becky,

Thanks so much for your message. I'm so so sorry you have to go through this too, I feel sad but also just so confused because it happened so fast. It's quite scary and a real shock when you don't expect to see blood!
Hopefully we have better luck next time :)

Thank you so much for reaching out xx
