Second dose misoprostol

Hi
Has anyone ever had retained product of conception and taken a second dose of misoprotol?
I took the first dose 2 weeks ago and had a lot of cramps and pain but not too much bleeding and no clots. The doctor gave me a second dose to take as I have retained tissue yesterday but so far I’ve had nothing happen. No bleeding, no cramps. Is this normal? I feel so traumatised by this whole experience. I just want it over now and I’m so worried about having to have surgery
Thanks

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I had a miscarriage recently and 2 doses of misoprostol did nothing for me. I ended up having the ERPC surgery and actually felt quite relieved once it was done, as it felt like the physical part was finally over.
Hopefully the second dose will work for you.

Thank you. I’m sorry for your loss too. Can I ask what exactly the surgery involved if you don’t mind telling me? I’ve never had any kind of surgery or procedure done before and I’m petrified

Thank you. I think the procedure varies in different places, some people have a MVA which is done under local anaesthetic, but they’re broadly similar. I had an ERCP under a general anaesthetic. Because I’d had the two doses of misoprostol beforehand, it was apparently quite a straightforward procedure (because cervix is already dilated by the meds) and then gentle suction is used to remove anything left in the womb. I woke up with some mild period pains and I had some light bleeding for a couple of days, but I was home the day of my procedure. The whole thing takes 10-20 minutes so it’s very quick and everyone was very kind.
Hopefully it won’t come to that for you, but if it does then it really isn’t too bad.

@Ad6395 so sorry for your loss. I was the same I lost a lot with first lot of medical management. But still somehow had retained tissue.

unfortunately for me like you the second dose of medical management did nothing. No bleeding no cramps. Repeat scan confirmed all still there.

by this point I’d known we’d lost it 3 weeks prior. And I wanted it over with. I chose for EROC surgery.

i was nervous and didnt want it either but I’d tried the other options. It was quick and pain free under GA. The nurses were all so so lovely.

an minus few cramps and bleeding for week. Week after I have a negative test and ovulated again.

im pleased I took that route in the end. Sending you hugs

Hi,

Im sorry for your loss and for the added complications you have suffered.

It seems so unfair that this tragedy occurred - and then to have the process of misoprostol cause more suffering adds to your pain.

Im taking my first dose today and I just wanted to offer my support to you. I hope you are recovering as best you can. Know that you aren’t alone in this and that we will get through this X
