Hello

I went for my 12 week scan today and they said they think I have had a molar pregnancy, I have to go in for a d and c tomorrow and then wait for the histology report which they said will take about 2 weeks.

I'm just all over the place between feeling OK about it and then getting really upset. I have been reading up about molar pregnancies and it none of it sounds very good so I was just wondering if anyone had had one if they could tell me what it was like please?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. I had a complete molar pregnancy 10 years ago. It was such a shock as I had never heard of them. It was discovered at about 10 weeks. I had to have a D&C to remove it, then my Hcg levels were monitored. Unfortunately, my levels didn't go down so I was referred to a specialist hospital for chemo. Whilst this was happening I was bleeding, which was the chemo doing it's job to target the molar. It was a long process for me (about 6 months) but I was very well looked after by the hospital. I have since gone on to have 2 healthy girls.

On the other hand, a friend of mine had a molar pregnancy and her levels reduced without the need for treatment. I don't know if hers was a complete or partial molar though.

Molar's are so rare and the need for treatment is even rarer so try not to worry about it going down that path. I hope you're ok and your levels drop naturally. Take care

I had a partial Molar around 8 years ago. My levels went down quite quickly and I went on to have a healthy boy later. It's a scary time. Take care x
