Surgery under GA or awake?

I'm planning to opt for the surgery route and they've mentioned I can have it under GA or awake with some pain management. I have only read about experiences under GA and just wondered if anyone has had it awake and what their experience was? Aside from the reduced risk of being under GA are there any other benefits to going the awake route?

I had mine under GA they never offered it awake and tbh I was upset after so think it was just easier to be fully asleep ❤️ sorry for your loss

Sorry about your loss. Is it the MVA you've been offered? If so, that's what I had. It was quite painful, but it was all done within 10-15 minutes. Staff held my hand and were there to reassure me. Once it was all done, very minimal bleeding and was able to go home fairly soon afterwards.

I’d definitely go down the GA route.

I had it under GA. It was better and easier than I'd imagined. Went to sleep, woke up with only light bleeding/minor period pain.

Definitely go with GA. It will be the sweetest relief you have all month. I had a d&c two weeks ago and the best bit was the anaesthetic. Heavenly. I'm so sorry for your shitty loss, it fucking sucks xxx

I had an MVA 2 weeks ago. I was told it was slightly lower risk than GA and that you spend less time in hospital. Unfortunately I found it quite traumatic as well as painful (I was told there would be mild discomfort), so given the choice again I would go with GA.

I also had mine under GA, to be honest the trauma of everything was already too much to best and I just didn't want the stress of it being painful under LA.
Hope it goes as well as possible for you whichever route you take xx
