Miscarried at 5 weeks... 4 weeks later positive pregnancy test

Hi all, wondering if anyone has experienced what I'm going through and has any advice/can shed any light on it?

Last month I had a miscarried at around 5 weeks, over the course of 2 weeks. I didn't have any of the usual miscarriage symptoms - cervix was closed the whole time, no severe cramps, never bled enough to touch a pad, only had light spotting until the actual miscarriage where it was fresh blood when I wiped, and a large clot.
I miscarried on a Sunday, and the following Sunday I had a scan which confirmed my uterus was empty. HCG levels never went to above 1,000.

I had what I thought was a period around 4 weeks after the miscarriage - it only lasted a day (last Tuesday) with moderate bleeding. I was super emotional as it confirmed to me that I was no longer pregnant.

On the Thursday I was due in for surgery for an unrelated matter, they asked for a urine test which came back positive. I explained the miscarriage so they then did a blood test which came back positive, with hcg levels of 18. I thought it could be remnants of the miscarriage, but my hcg levels were so low they would have dropped to 0 pretty quickly after the miscarriage.

It was a complete emotional rollercoaster - I went from thinking I was definitely not pregnant to getting a positive test 2 days later. I'm going in for another blood test tomorrow to check whether hcg levels are rising in which case it's a positive pregnancy. If I am pregnant I can't be more than 2/3 weeks along. I'm so frustrated, as I told myself after the miscarriage that I wouldn't take a test so early on, but the surgery threw a spanner in the works!!

I know that it is possible to conceive shortly after miscarrying, but I'm so confused about the period - not sure if this means I had another miscarriage? The bleeding has now freaked me out that this is another unviable pregnancy 😞

Forgot to add - I had negative pregnancy tests in between the miscarriage and now so I don't think it's retained tissue

It's possible, so am hopeful for you

However, chemical pregnancies are also very common the month after miscarriage

I had a really strong positive the month after mine, but then a period 5 days later

Took a few months for cycle to settle and then caught 4 months after and ds is now 13

🤞🏼 for you
