TTC after miscarriage/D&C

I’m sorry if this has been asked before but after hours and hours of searching I can’t find any info! So I had an incomplete miscarriage 21/4/22 and a D&C 12/5/22, my question is does my cycle start from the date of miscarriage bleeding (21/4) or from the D&C? My DH and I have started ttc again the week after the D&C when the bleeding stopped and have been DTD every other day but for the last 5 days I have been having (tmi sorry) pinky orange ewcm. I haven’t had a positive opk yet so I just don’t know WTH is going on! Please someone help!! I’m going crazy, thank you so so much in advance 🙏

I don't think you can really know what your cycle is until your first period. That doesn't mean you can't try but you just won't know the last menstrual period date

JeanieJ · 05/06/2022 13:50

Your cycle starts the day of your D&C, but you should wait until you've stopped bleeding before you DTD - usually 2 weeks after D&C. Have you had a negative pregnancy test since your D&C? It took me about 2.5 weeks for a negative test.
I ovulated 17 days after my D&C, but I wanted to wait one cycle before ttc again.
I'd asked my doc & she said it's best just to have a period & see if it's normal before trying again.
Luckily my period came on day 30 and it was normal, so I'm ttc again.
Good luck x

Thanks so much for your replies ladies. JeanieJ got you thank you, so I guess I would be on cycle day 25 but I haven’t ovulated yet as I have been doing opk’s every day and not had a positive yet. My dr said we could start as soon as the bleeding stopped which was 4 days after my d&c eek hope that was ok 😬I haven’t been doing hpt’s as I was going to the clinic once a week for blood tests and they tracked it all the way down to zero which was on 27th May. I’ve ready that some people just don’t ovulate before they’re period so maybe that’s the case with me 🤔did you get a positive opk when you ovulated or did you just go by CM as I had loads of EWCM on 28th and 29th May but the opk’s were negative.

Sorry I meant to wish you luck too! I hope you get your bfp soon 😊

Ok now I’m super confused… so I took a pregnancy test after you mentioned if I’d had a negative one and I’ve got a faint positive but my hcg was at zero on 27th May, could this still be leftover hcg or a new pregnancy? 🤔

@MamaSquirrel1 were the blood tests tracking your hcg down to zero?
If so, then maybe that is a BFP?
Maybe test again in a few days & if it gets darker, that's a good sign, but if lighter, take it that there's still some hcg leaving your system.
Good luck!

MamaSquirrel1 · 05/06/2022 21:40

@JeanieJ yeah they said on 27th that my hcg was at zero. Will test in a couple of days and see, wish I’d have tested before now! 😕thank you, you too x

@MamaSquirrel1 how are you getting on? Did you test?

MamaSquirrel1 · 08/06/2022 09:50

Hello @JeanieJ I actually got blood work done yesterday and my beta hcg came back at 1.6 so I’m still none the wiser! They tracked them down to zero so it’s gone up a bit but the dr said that anything under 5 is not pregnant so who knows! He did also say that hcg stays present in the urine for longer than the blood so that explains the positive test. I’ve got to back in on Friday for another blood test to see if it’s gone up. I’m just going to try switch off for now if I can 😬how are you getting on? 😊

Hi @MamaSquirrel1

Sorry for your loss. Hoping to see how you’re getting on now?

I had medical management following MMC at 9 weeks 18 days ago. I got a negative pregnancy test 2 weeks after the mmc. I tracked cycle day one as the day everything came away, but am now on cycle day 18 and haven’t got anything close to a positive ovulation test.

Like you we started trying as soon as the bleeding stopped, but it doesn’t look like I’ll ovulate any time soon so maybe won’t at all this cycle!

Separately is your tummy bloated at all? Mine is so bloated I look like I could still be pregnant 😔

MamaSquirrel1 · 11/06/2022 15:40

Hi @Cdoc , I’m so sorry for your loss, it’s not easy 😪 my cycle has been all over the place tbh and my hormones have been crazy. My poor DH! My gynae confirmed I wasn’t pregnant so we continued ttc and doing opk’s, I finally got a positive opk on cycle day 28 and I ovulated yesterday on cycle day 30 confirmed by bbt. So I’m in the tww now and praying we caught the egg! Yes I am so bloated and have had af cramps since cycle day 19 I thought I was actually going to have a period but nothing weirdly. The cramps went as soon as I ovulated so just all over the place really! Are you doing opk’s and temping?

OP posts:
Cdoc · 11/06/2022 17:05

@MamaSquirrel1 oh wow, your opk came on day 28! That is all over the place but thank god you finally did, you must’ve been so impatient waiting for it. I’m so hopeful for you that it’s your time 🤞🏼🤞🏼 The tww must be absolute hell!

Okay so bloating is normal at least, I just want it to go away though! Hoping when AF comes it will go down, though who knows when that will be.

I am just doing opk’s at the moment, would you recommend bbt too? DH keeps saying he doesn’t want to put pressure on it so I’m doing the opk’s in secret. Just want to know when our bodies will feel like our own again as I feel like I’m in someone else’s atm!

MamaSquirrel1 · 11/06/2022 18:32

Yes it was so frustrating and I honestly thought I just wasn’t going to ovulate before my first period so I was going to stop testing (opk’s) but so pleased I continued! Yup lol I’m only 1dpo and wanting to test already 😅 it’s going to be a long two weeks!! You don’t need to temp but just handy as you can be sure you ovulated because opk’s only tell you when you’re having a LH surge and that your body is gearing up to ovulate if that makes sense! Yeah bloating is totally normal and I know it’s horrible being in limbo and not knowing what’s going on but rest assured it’ll all settle down soon 😊

Hello ladies. I just wanted to share my pregnancy journey in case it gives anyone some comfort/hope - as I spent hours trawling here for reassurance myself! So my pregnancy efforts began in my early thirties with a miscarriage at six weeks, then a few months later a missed miscarriage that was discovered at the 12 week scan, which felt especially cruel. I broke up with that partner and about four years later I had another missed miscarriage with a new partner. This time I had to have a D & C. So I’d had three in a row and my GP the referred me for tests but the consultant found nothing wrong. It then took me two years of trying to conceive again and this time I had a healthy baby girl at 36, which felt like an absolute miracle. Unfortunately things did not work out with her dad. I was single for over three years and am now 40 and in a great relationship with a man who is 52 and we conceived (it was planned and we decided to go for it early due to our combined age) after 2 months of trying. I felt sure I’d miscarry, now aged 40, a father of 52 and with my previous track record. However I just had my 12 week scan and all is perfectly well! I know we are never out of the woods until that baby is in our arms but I wanted to share all this to give hope to anyone trying to conceive after miscarriage, missed miscarriage, recurrent miscarriage and anyone worrying about falling pregnant at 40. I know all of our bodies are different but hopefully this will help someone out there! I think in terms of doing things differently, the only lifestyle change I made was that I gave up alcohol when pregnant with my daughter and never went back to drinking. So maybe it’s the tee total life that has helped me apparently get more fertile as I get older. But it could just be coincidence! Anyway best of luck and lots of love to anyone trying to conceive out there xxx

Aww so sorry to hear this. It is so tough 😢. I’m ttc after mmc last month and had found this thread ❤️

JeanieJ · 31/08/2022 22:25

@MamaSquirrel1 really sorry you're having a tough time.

It's 4 months since my loss and I still haven't conceived, so now 2 years in total trying for a baby. It's been really tough.

Have you had any tests done?

xx
