Missed miscarriage?

Went to my appointment today for the abortion pill, thinking I should be 7 weeks by my calculations. They gave me a scan and fetus is measuring at 10 weeks but no heartbeat. We talked more about dates and it seems I’m about 11 weeks and last period I had wasn’t an actual period. It was only 2 days and very light but I didn’t think much of it. She said it’s very likely I’ve had a missed miscarriage (never heard of it before)
and gave me the choice of allowing it to continue naturally, or go back in 2 weeks for another scan if nothing has happened, and have the tablets or surgery. I’m very confused right now.

I'm so sorry, that must be quite a shock. Have they spoken to you about all your options and the pros cons? As you were going for an abortion anyway, it would seem worth considering medical management. The process for passing it naturally varies a lot from pregnancy to pregnancy but it can take a while.
I just wanted to warn you that pregnancy hormones remain in your system for a while after which can mean symptoms.
Also, even though you were going for an abortion, it's still understandable that this loss will bring up lots of emotions. Take your time and be gentle with yourself.

Thank you for your reply. I’m not sure how I feel tbh. She said that letting it pass naturally may be less painful than taking the tablets. I think im going to wait and see what happens.

You must be feeling all over the place. Remember that how you feel is how you feel - you can be completely fine or very upset, the fact that you were going to have a termination doesn't mean you have to be ok with this if you're not.

I had a missed miscarriage and opted for the surgery. I knew a couple of women who had had both and they both said it was the easiest option. I had a day or two of very light bleeding and was in swimwear on holiday less than a week later. Physically it was an absolute breeze.

(Emotionally I was fine too, and it was a wanted pregnancy - like I say, no right or wrong way to feel.)

Oh and the miscarriage association had a very useful leaflet on their website with the options.

Yutes · 28/05/2022 09:29

I’ve had a missed miscarriage twice.
I took the tablets the first time. The pain and bleeding was not manageable for me on my own. I was in physical pain for a few weeks after because it was such an effort for me.
It happened naturally the second time. It was just as painful and scary because I was on my own.
I certainly did not have light bleeding either time.
Physically I was a little better.
emotionally I was a wreck.

Thanks for the replies. I am feeling completely all over the place. I am going to wait it out and see if it happens naturally I think. I’ve got a stomach ache so not sure if that means it’s coming

Hello,

mum so sorry to hear you are going through this. I have was told I had a blighted ovum 2 weeks ago and a missed miscarriage.

I took the pills yesterday to start the miscarriage. I read lots of negative reviews online so I was so scared to take them. My experience was absolutely fine. Was just like a heavy period with period pains (I should of been 9 weeks) if you need to talk let me know xx

Hi guys, so I passed the pregnancy on
6th June, but I am still bleeding now almost 2 weeks later. Is this normal? how will I know if I have an infection?

You can bleed for sometime following a miscarriage.
Are you under care from EPU or your GP?
this is advice they tend to give.

You’ll know you have an infection because your blood or discharge may have a foul smell, you may have the shivers or have a fever. If you’re really worried about that then you need to go to a health care professional

So sorry you're going through this, it's not easy at all. I started naturally with mine, had a scan a week later and it hadn't passed so I opted for the medication a few days later. Most of the worst pain for me was done before that so it was definitely bearable but everyone is different. A follow up scan 2 weeks later confirmed it had worked. Do whatever is right for you but my advice would be to go with the medication as it can be such a long process. You may end up needing the medication anyway.
Hope you are ok, sending hugs x

It's possible that it isn't complete but you can always bleed for a bit after too so do contact your gp. Are the hospital giving you care? You should be getting follow up scans, etc

CLR1313 · 20/06/2022 17:29

No I haven’t been given anything. Was basically sent away from the abortion clinic after being told I was miscarrying and left to it

That's not right at all, no wonder you're all over the place. Maybe contact your EPU and see what they say. You'll need a scan to confirm things and make sure there's no infection x

CLR1313 · 25/06/2022 21:03

I’ve been to the GP and I’ve got an infection and been given antibiotics. I’ve got to go for a scan to check if there is anything left and then have an ERPC if needed. I’m really scared. Can anyone tell me more about the procedure?

I don't have any experience with it but anyone I know who has had it done said it's absolutely fine and nothing to worry about. Hopefully it won't come to that but you'll be ok x
