Period without much bleeding 3 months after D&C

I had a miscarriage at week 8 and a D&C in February. A month after that, I had severe cramps with dark brown spotting, no real bleeding. This lasted for 2-3 days. This happened again a month after and then again 1 month later - so 3 months of periods with bad cramps but not a lot of bleeding. Anyone else experience this?

I had a couple of ultrasounds in the middle, one a week after the first "period" and it showed my lining was at 6mm and another one 2 weeks ago, where my lining was at 7mm.

I'm really worried about adhesions or other complications, but no one other than me seems to be worried :(

My period was never the same after my first D&C, it got really light. After 2 years of not being able to get pregnant again I had a hysteroscopy to see if there had been any damage caused by the procedure but there wasn’t.

My lining looked good at pre-ovulation scans but then by pure fluke I discovered that it was actually receding during my cycle and couldn’t have sustained a pregnancy. I went on Oestrogen after ovulation and after a few more miscarriages managed to have my daughter.

If I were you I’d look for an ultrasound to check what’s going on with your lining after ovulation. That’s probably the simplest start point as other than that you’re looking at a hysteroscopy.

Thanks for the reply! That sounds like a really gruelling experience, I'm sorry you had to go through that :( so glad to hear you were able to have a baby afterwards!

Was there any other diagnostics testing that was in those two years? So far the advice for me has been just wait and watch, which is frustrating, because these periods don't feel normal, even ignoring the fact that I'm not bleeding. The pain is much more acute and I even feel lower belly muscular pain when I pee during the period..

Did the estrogen treatment restore the normal cycles and healthier lining?

I was a mess, I was so worried about Ashermans, it took 3 or so months for my period to even come back and then it was very light, but then I managed to get pregnant pretty quickly.

Just wanted to give you the other side.

But definitely push to get checked out if you feel something is wrong as I needed a second D&C for retained products which was when I then got worried, due to the second op. Turns out they were just very thorough. But just know, the change in period isn't necessarily going to be a bad thing at this point ☺️ as mine happened after my successful op.

Good luck, OP, and sorry to hear what you've been going through.

@maggicat

Thank you, I’m so sorry for your loss too. No other investigations in that time. I can’t really say if they went back to normal because once the lining was sorted I had 4 chemicals in a row before conceiving my daughter so I haven’t really had a normal cycle with oestrogen but without pregnancy.

At the very least I would push for a late cycle scan if nothing is happening and the weird periods persist but hopefully you’ll be like @startfresh and will fall pregnant anyway.

Thank you for the messages! :)

@startfresh may I ask how it was discovered that you need a second operation?

@Pollywoddles thanks for that suggestion. It's good to have something actionable I can chase!

I wanted to have at least one healthy period before trying to get pregnant again. As things stand, I don't have confidence that my lining ever got thick enough post D&C to sustain a pregnancy. A late cycle ultrasound should help me get an idea of that too.

Sure. I was having my hCG levels monitored and they started to plateau. I pushed for a scan, which eventually found the retained products.

I was met with a lot of push backs and even told I was ok/scan was clear initially. I really got overly frustrated and fought my corner/begged until it was found.

I was right, though, so was worth it.

Hi @maggicat i know this is an old post but wondering could you give an update. It’s been 6 months since my d&c and very light periods. Very concerned but all ultrasounds show lining is fine and doctors aren’t worried!

Hi have you got any updates? I’m going through the same thing as you right now and I’m really worried something is wrong.
