Medical management questions

Hi everyone,

I had medical management (misoprostol pessaries) this week and I’m now on day 4 of bleeding (it was very traumatic and I had to be hospitalised due to blood loss but that’s another story)

I have a few questions if anyone who has had this wouldn’t mind answering

1 - how long did it take for your pregnancy tests to show negative or start fading?
2 - how long did the bleeding take?
3 - is it possible to ovulate with a medically managed miscarriage (could I get pregnant this ‘cycle’ even though this isn’t actually a period)

Thanks

Sorry I can't answer any questions as I only took the misoprostal 2 days ago myself after a missed misscarriage at 11 weeks. Following this as I'm also interested in how long people bled for. I took the tablets Friday but still have diarrhoea, cramping and bleeding. I'm hoping it eases off soon as I don't feel like I can even leave the house.

@sausageandbeansx @Limebazil

in the same scenario. I took medical management 11 days ago. My bleeding has tapered off to just brown on wiping now really. Hardly need a panty liner.

but on Friday a scan confirmed I have retained product of about 2cm. Even though I bled loads and lost lots of tissue and clots.

i have taken a second dose of the tablets early this morning. But nothing has happened! In fact my bleeding is stopping no new bleeding started. So defeated.

feel like I may end up needing surgery to remove this last bit of tissue left. It’s been 4 weeks since I’ve known and feels like it’s going on and on.

I'm so sorry. Its shit that we have to deal with the physical side of it on top the emotional impact especially when it's long and drawn out. It's just so tough. Sending you love xxx

How far along are you OP? This can have a baring on the answers we provide.

To answer your questions:

1 - how long did it take for your pregnancy tests to show negative or start fading? I don't know. The hospital never told me to check after the TFMR and as it was my 1st pregnancy, I had no idea that this would have normally been advised. After my MC when I was 7 weeks- I had a negative pregnancy test a week later. After my next MC at 9 weeks, again, a pregnancy test was negative a week later.

2 - how long did the bleeding take? 8 weeks! Again, it was my 1st pregnancy and 1st TFMR and I had no idea that this was indeed excessive. I finally passed a POC 2 weeks later with my 1st period, but thankfully, didn't have an infection!

3 - is it possible to ovulate with a medically managed miscarriage (could I get pregnant this ‘cycle’ even though this isn’t actually a period) not unless the bleeding had completely stopped and there are no POC inside.

If you have questions, feel free to ask Flowers

Hi love I am so sorry you are going through this.
I'd had no bleeding at all, then had the misoprostol inserted on the Sunday.
I bled for almost 3 weeks but the final 10 days it was heavy spotting rather than a period like bleed.
My period then came on day 41. I didn't track ovulation as we were not ttc but it is common for women to ovulate that first cycle. I got positive pregnancy tests up until my period came, but a scan showed there were no retained products but the lining of my uterus was a bit thick - they said this would pass with my period. I did a test a couple of days once my period finished (it was a much heavier period than usual with a few small clots) and it was finally negative.
Hope this helps. Look after yourself Flowers

Sorry also meant to add - I passed everything by about 6am on the Monday morning - then just continued to bleed like a period getting gradually less and less over the following 2/3 weeks.

About 8-9 weeks in total for me. I had a couple of massive heavy bleeds with big clots about 2 days after miscarriage was confirmed and then it was just heavy bleeding constantly. Took a test around 3 weeks after that which showed up positive was told to retest again a week later and it was a very faint positive. Had a scan which showed retained tissue. Was given misoprostol and once everything had passed I continued to bleed for a further 2 weeks

So sorry for your loss❤️
I had misoprostal for my missed miscarriage back in November and it took about 10 days for the bleeding to stop and 5 weeks for my period to return. I had a negative pregnancy test 3 weeks after.
You can get pregnant in your first cycle but the midwife recommended that I waited until my period returned so that a new pregnancy can be dated correctly.

To give you a bit of hope, you are more fertile in the 3 months following a loss and I conceived again on our 2nd month trying after my period returned and I am now 21 weeks with a boy 💙

Sending big hugs x

Hello.

I had medical management at the start of this year, I was 18 weeks along. I was never advised to take a pregnancy test, I did one the other day after reading on here that you are supposed to, and it was negative but it's been months so I assume that's normal. My bleeding lasted about 7 weeks, it would taper off and I would think it was done then it would come back really heavily. It definitely wasn't a linear recovery. I had recurrent issues and kept being told they were UTI's but it actually turned out to be retained products like I'd said all along, I passed them at home after a brief spell of strong pains and bleeding. My milk came in, which I had been told wouldn't happen, it did and it was very difficult and felt like an extra big kick in the guts after everything else. This took a long time to pass, around two weeks.

My condolences for your loss.
