Red blood and cramps

I could do with a little advice if anyone can help? I'm 5 weeks pregnant today. I had some dark brown clot-like discharge yesterday, contacted the GP and was told there was nothing they could do but take a blood test.

Today, I have had a little more brown blood and one red smear when I wiped along with period-like general cramps (in my legs and back more than my stomach).

I have called my GP but still waiting for a call back hours later and I'm going out of my mind.

My questions are
1- does it sound like I'm miscarrying?
2- what should I ask my GP to do?

Thank you for any help!

At 5 weeks, they can't really scan you as the fetus is too small but they could test your blood twice, 48-72 h assist, to see if your HCG is rising as expected.
Can you self-refer to your local Early Pregnancy Unit?

I don’t think I can- I think they refuse to see you without a GP referral here. I've just seen my GP who has booked me in for a second blood test tomorrow to compare the levels and we'll go from there. I know it's early and there's not much they can do, but this not knowing is absolutely awful!

The not knowing is awful. I'm so sorry you're going through this. It does sound like you're getting what is needed from your GP now. Hoping for a positive outcome for you.

I bled at 9w, away from home, on bank holiday. It was a nightmare, hours and hours in a&e and still no help (got a private scan to confirm in the end). I was shocked by the whole thing. Finding out you're pregnant is so quick and black & white. I didn't realize miscarriage was so drawn out and slow to confirm.

I didn't either- there's so much unknown at this stage isn't there? This limbo of waiting but still being careful about things in case it is ok... I will try some private clinics but most are saying they can’t do anything until 6 weeks. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply- I know it's not a nice thing to talk about!
