Miscarriage and determining cycles

Morning,

Just after a bit of advice - I’m probably being thick so please tell me if I am! I had a missed miscarriage in Feb, had and MVA on 28th Feb. I had a scan 3 weeks later as I was still testing positive, and at that scan the consultant said I was ovulating/had just ovulated. Now, two weeks and 2 days after that, I have come on. Can that in itself determine cycle length, ie. From ovulation to period, or is it period to period? Sorry if this is stupid, it’s surprising how little you feel you know your own body after going through miscarriage!

Hey @CupidStunt24. Sorry for your loss.

I believe that generally from ovulation to period is usually 14 days and this doesn't tend to change much.. I think the first half of your cycle can tend to be more variable, particularly after miscarriage.

My cycles after miscarriage have ranged from usual 28 days to a 5 week cycle, this one particularly I think is because my hcg took a bit longer to start but I always counted them from day of first miscarriage bleeding to day of period.

I would count your new cycle from the say of your period and focus on this one now.

Not an expert though, just going off my experience / what I have read.

Hope you are doing okay, I know I always struggle with the first periods after miscarriage.

Thank you so much @thehurtingheart! That makes sense, I always wondered where the variance came, like if someone had a long cycle it always made me wonder when they would ovulate, if it would be in the middle or 14days roughly before AF.

I hope you’re ok and sorry to hear you’ve been through this too. I find it so confusing. You go through weeks if desperately hoping to NOT see blood, and then desperately wanting to to know your cycles are kicking back in. Same as pregnancy tests, you go through all that time desperate for the positive, to then hoping for the negative after the MC so you know you can start again. It’s all quite emotionally draining isn’t it! Xxx

I had a natural miscarriage on 3rd of March and had an internal scan on 7th confirming complete miscarriage but lining was only slightly thicker than it should but they said it will pass naturally.
I was testing positive for 5 weeks up until last week when my period came which was really upsetting and driving me crazy.
I determined my first day of my bleeding as day 1 or cycle until last week when I got day 1 of my period , hope that helps X

Thank you @MooBugz! I counted this “period” I’ve just had, although it was only about 4 days, normal flow for 2 days and 2 days much lighter “brown” (sorry tmi) bleeding. So will used that as my cycle for now. Especially as it was 2 weeks after ovulation was confirmed, it fits about right! Sorry for your loss, it’s so sad ❤️
