No heartbeat at 6+1

The people at the EPU were really nice, booked me back in two weeks for a follow up, told me "fingers crossed" but the thing is, I'm sure of my dates.

Two of my previous miscarriages were exactly this, except with private scans rather than EPU. Sonographer saying it's fine! Dates are just off! And they weren't.

It's over isn't it.

Do you have any miracle stories of divine intervention that somehow creates a heartbeat after 6 weeks? Like honestly I'm not religious but if you say lighting candles and praying to the Holy virgin worked for you then I'll try it.

I'm feeling so sad. Because it was EPU this time I won't even get a picture of it to remember it by.

6 weeks is very early. Was there a fetus measuring 6 weeks on the scan?

I wouldn't give up hope just yet. Could you book a scan at 7 weeks so you'll have more of an answer?

Fingers crossed for you.

Btw with my first pregnancy I had a scan at 5+6 and there was no heartbeat, just a fetal pole. Everything was fine.

It's not unusual to not hear a heartbeat at 6 weeks.

Hoping4second · 16/03/2022 15:22

@Yellowdott Thank you for the kind words.

There was a foetal pole, measurements were consistent with a 5-5,1/2 weeker.

I'm sure of my dates though. Did opks, felt ovulation pain.

Measurements so early on are really inaccurate though and you don't always see a heartbeat at 6 weeks. By 7 weeks, yes, you should see it.

Like I said, when I was a day away from 6 weeks there was no heartbeat and was measuring around 5 weeks. It was inaccurate though - my dates were completely right and baby caught up by the time I had my 12 week scan.

Can you get a scan at 7 weeks? I'd do it to know either way and save a week of worrying.

Fingers crossed all will work out.

I think I might go private. This way I'll at least get a picture. Thank you for the positivity.

I’m really sorry for what you’re going through. I had recurrent miscarriages and this stage (not great scan, the waiting) is torture.

Dates could be off if implantation happened a bit late. What dpo did you test positive?

My daughter was a bad scan with no heartbeat and measuring small at 6 weeks - I was convinced it was another miscarriage but bizarrely it wasn’t. But it has gone the other way for me too. The uncertainty is horrible. I used to just go with a ‘hope for the best, but expect the worst’ approach, but people are different.

Sending a hug. It’s awful.

I really hope it works out for you. I should’ve said that in my first post. X

aesgriff · 16/03/2022 20:58

@Hoping4second did then give you a CRL? Xx

I had a scan at 6 weeks exactly and no heartbeat, and the sac was measuring ahead at about 7 weeks. Went back at 7 weeks and there was a heartbeat and I'm now 32weeks pregnant. This pregnancy is an IVF conception so absolutely 100% certain of dates. Just a little slow to take to develop in the early days (all normal by 12 weeks!) and as other have said measurements are really inaccurate at that stage so that's why the sac measured 'ahead'. Don't lose hope (easier said than done, and I personally she'd MANY tears!)

Ellie5341 · 16/03/2022 21:22

So @Hoping4second what did they measure you at and what are you?

I had this just weeks ago and I was measuring 2 weeks further along, I spent hours researching- praying and hoping for the best.

I found a weeks difference can actually be all ok and it's quite normal how that can happen that baby measures a week behind.

6+1 is still VERY early to hear a heartbeat so I wouldn't read into that too much.

Have you any symptoms of loss?
Can they prescribe you aspirin or progesterone that's often advised nowadays?

Hoping4second · 17/03/2022 10:35

@clovertrot I tested + at 10 dpo so late implantation isn't likely I don't think.
Thank you.

@JustOneMoreStep oh thank you for that, it's exactly the kind of story I was hoping to hear!

@Ellie5341 we did see a sac and fetal pole but it all measured 5 1/2 weeks. I've been there before several times and it meant a loss. I've had small bleeds but very light. Still feeling very much pregnant but that doesn't mean anything. I'm on progesterone due to history of repeat miscarriages.
