HCG Levels after miscarriage/baby loss

I am hoping someone may be able to help or shed some light at least.

I lost my baby at 16 weeks, went for the gender scan and there was no heartbeat. Three days later I went into hospital and gave birth and was sent home. A few days later I passed large clumps of retained placenta at home and had to go into hospital for a d&c, (extremely oversized placenta and very infected and septic). They said if I hadn’t gone when I did, it could’ve been critical.

It’s now been 14.5 weeks since the D&C, I’ve had 3 periods although the cycle is longer than my usual 30 days, as far as I am aware I am still ovulating (been taking ovulations tests) although I am STILL getting positive pregnancy tests (they are faint)

Is this normal? I feel as though the hospital and doctors can’t be bothered to listen to my worries. We are desperate to try for another baby but I’m not even sure if it’s possible with the pregnancy tests being positive right now?

I have no answers for you, but my test is still positive 6 weeks after 11 week miscarriage, eventhough I'm currently having what I think is my first period.
My hospital haven't been amazing, but they have offered me scans when I was still positive after 3 weeks (turned out I had retained products), and now if my test is still positive next week. I would push your early pregnancy unit for a scan to see what's going on, if you can. It really doesn't sound acceptable to me, as there are potentially infection risks if you have something retained still. I hope you get the answers soon xx

@Luckycharm19x
So sorry for your experience that is heartbreaking.

Are your pregnancy tests getting lighter?

Doesn't seem right after this long... I'd keep pushing for answers as even though it's draining when you are fighting to be heard, this is your physical and emotional state of mind in the balance.

@Ellie5341 thank you. I feel like they’re getting lighter and then other times I think it’s darker. They were so sure in the hospital when I initially left that there was nothing retained and when I returned after passing placenta at home they said there would be no more on two occasions which in the end up was incorrect as I eventually had to have a D&C. They told me to stop taking pregnancy tests (easier said than done) but I am just so so worried. I think I’ll have to give the consultant a call tomorrow - I’ve randomly started bleeding too (tmi) but something just doesn’t seem right.

Nothing is tmi on here believe me!

Yea I'd definitely call. You know your body and remind them how they've given you the wrong information on more than 1 occasion so you have valid reasons for questioning further.

If you don't already, I wonder if (testing at the same time of day) it's worth taking pictures so you can compare? You'd need to wait the same time and use the same brands for this though... however emotionally this could be draining in itself.

Have you carried on ttc- could it be a new pregnancy?
