Positive test weeks after miscarriage

I had a early scan 11th Feb as I bled on the 10th. I was told baby was measuring 4 weeks but no heartbeat. I knew my dates I was meant to be 7. I went home and naturally miscarried the majority on 14th. I had to go epu for bloods and scans. Latest being a week ago. I was told everything is looking as it should (in these circumstances). My blood level had gone down to 40. I was told to take another pregnancy test today and its faintly positive. I am just wondering how long it took for you to test negative on a pregnancy test after miscarriage?

I believe everyone varies just as with hormone increase. I would expect you to test completely negative by next week maybe if your level was at 40

Notwithittoday · 04/03/2022 13:23

It took three weeks to test negative but that was with a surgical removal so I imagine it can take longer if you lost naturally

Putdownthecake · 04/03/2022 14:42

Thank you both for your replies. Hospital seemed pretty adamant I should test negative today. I'm awaiting there phone call back. Just want to feel 'normal' I guess.

I think if by 3 weeks there is still a positive they like to check for anything being left over. They will probably say retest Monday. If you're still positive ring epu again up or of course if you feel any fever, chills, pain ect ring up over the weekend make sure and stay in touch with them.

Hi am I being over sensitive here

So I went to my appointment and was told I've had a missed miscarriage I should have been 9 weeks no heartbeat my partner (don't live together) I told him he didn't come down to see me yes he works a 9-5 job we love 1.5hr away.

I went to see him weekend gone and yesterday despite him knowing I wasn't well felt dizzy said he needed to go had family to see. I drove back he didn't message to see if I got home ok then the bleeding started I messaged he did seem concerned called messaged etc...

Today I expected him to drive down to see me but nothing he was working in the day then later this evening I've called him pouring my heart out absolutely broken 20 mins later he said he needed to go as his family were over.

I feel like I've gone through this whole process on my own

Hi @SharonR88 I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. It is awful. It might be worth starting your own thread so you get more replies but I would very quickly be making your partner an ex. Do you have any friends or family who can support you? I would be suspicious he has another partner where he lives and that his family is literally his family. You deserve a lot more. Please continue to reach out for support even if its strangers on the net. You need to be heard x

@Putdownthecake 9 weeks - they scanned after 6 but it was all clear, just HCG dropping slowly

Michellebops · 08/03/2022 06:31

I was 9 weeks. I still had low levels of hcg retained

Putdownthecake · 08/03/2022 06:43

@TheDaydreamBelievers @Michellebops thank you for your replies. 9 weeks seems such a long time. Does that mean you didn't have periods either for a while?

@Putdownthecake you typically cannot ovulate unless HCG is below 5, so no ovulation means no period.

No I didn't have a period until the hcg went to 0 and was literally just after the 9 weeks mark.

The lines were super faint so I knew wasn't a new pregnancy.

Also the first period was horrendous 😢

I'm sorry for your loss

Putdownthecake · 08/03/2022 12:02

Bless you both.
Same goes to you @Michellebops thank you
I was 40 blood level Friday 25th Feb and 300 Friday 18th so I'd have thought mine would be 0 by now but clearly not. The worst part is despite logic saying its old hormone, wishful thinking says what if it isn't. Illogical.

Why was your period horrendous? Cramps and bleeding wise? I had stop in my track cramps yesterday and thought to myself at last my period is coming but they lasted all of 10 minutes and nothing yet. Just a waiting game.

Do you mind me asking if you are still trying?

@Putdownthecake my first period after was totally fine and normal, so it may not be awful

We are still trying (over the 2 year mark) but have other fertility challenges pre existing the miscarriage

PossiblyPertunia · 08/03/2022 16:19

I was still faintly positive at 4 weeks and 3 days after my MVA and then started my period 2 days after that. So I didn't ovulate but still had a period.

I was 13 week's pregnant when I had my miscarriage so that plus 9 weeks was approximately 5 months since I'd had a period. The cramps and flooding was awful. And to top it all off was my actual first night out in 3 months - I was a joy to be around 🙈 This was end of 2018. I have been pregnant twice since then but miscarried before 5/6 weeks. I'm almost 45 so not particularly trying anymore. Not preventing either but I will need to make a decision one way or another. I keep saying next month I'll make a decision.
