MMC at 12 week scan

What a shit day. I had some inkling that things weren't right as my symptoms fell off a bit of a cliff at 10 weeks, which is when baby would've died. Still sucks and I have a D&C booked for Friday but also have covid symptoms.

Can anyone share a heads up as to what will happen either way - surgically or naturally? I have a good biological understanding but need to hear it first hand, really.

What an utterly shit club to be in.

Hopeful bump.

So sorry to hear this @falalalalalalablahblah Flowers

I had a MMC and D&C a few years ago - I couldn’t bring myself to try the other options. I went to to hospital and they gave me a pessary to soften my cervix, then after about an hour they put me under general and when I woke up it was done - I had some bleeding for about a week after but just like a moderate period. Wishing you all the best.

falalalalalalablahblah · 04/01/2022 15:41

Thank you @HelloViroids, that's the kind of insight I need, straight up scientific what is going to happen! Do you mind me asking how you felt following the procedure? I'm sorry this happened to you too. Thanks

So sorry OP. I had the same at my 12 week scan - 2 days before Xmas.

I decided to have the "medical management" because I didn't want to wait. I was in the hospital for about 7 hours and eventually passed lots of large clots. If I could go back I'd choose to have the D&C because the pain was utterly awful.

I hope it goes okay for you.

falalalalalalablahblah · 04/01/2022 15:52

Thank you @Naby. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I am hoping nothing "natural" happens before Friday, but am aware that it could.

After the procedure I think I was a little bit crampy like very very mild period pain but only for 24 hours - was amazed how (physically) normal I felt. About a week after the D&C I got an infection, but I am slightly prone to gynae infections, so I wouldn’t worry about that if I were you, I think it’s quite unlikely. For me the infection caused some pain whereas the procedure caused hardly any.

Thank you again. It's helpful just to talk to people!!

@falalalalalalablahblah hello and so sorry for your loss. I had a MMC too, three days before my 12 week scan I started bleeding so went to EPU, confirmed the baby stopped growing at 9.5 weeks.

I was convinced I'd do it naturally as I was already bleeding, and terrified of general anaesthesia (I've never spent much time in hospitals up to that point fortunately). However as the days rolled on and I didn't pass much, I was told I couldnt go past 14 weeks (the sac was still growing). I ended up going for a SMM at 13 weeks and it was all done in a day. After the pessary's I felt some discomfort (bad period cramps) and then similar as PP was wheeled away, had GA and woke up half an hour later.

I was shocked at how fine physically I felt afterwards, and a sense of relief and closure. I bled for about a week/10 days after, heavy initially and then lighter and lighter.

I pray I never have to go through it again, but if I had to, the SMM was definitely an ok process that I would choose again.

So sorry for your loss, and I hope that helped. Xx

So sorry OP Thanks

I had a MMC picked up at my 12 week scan too and had a D&C the following day. Very glad I did, no complications and all over and done with. Sending you best wishes x

I'm so very sorry - such a dreadful thing to hear.

I went for natural (I don't know why - I think part of me was hoping they had made a terrible mistake). I took another 2 weeks after the scan to start bleeding, was very similar to labour pain and took about 3-4 days. At 14-15 weeks, it's a pretty gruesome and painful process and if it had happened to me again, I would have opted for medical management.

I had a MMC found at 11 weeks by EPAU - went as I'd had some brown and pink blood. I decided to let nature take its course as I was already bleeding. I had light red bleeding then very intense period pain - contractions really- for a few hours (my labour with DC1 was only 3 hours) before passing the sac in the toilet. Bleeding wasn't too bad and lasted a week. I wish they didn't tell people it was like a slightly heavier period though because it isn't.

I'm sorry for your loss.

So sorry 😞 Thanks

I had a ERPC and it was relatively straightforward. Some period type cramps afterwards.

Emotionally, it was terribly difficult 😞

Look after yourself.

falalalalalalablahblah · 04/01/2022 17:57

Thank you all, it's really really helpful hearing from other people. What a shit, shit club to all be in. I'm hoping to be able to wait out until the ERPC on Friday. That was my choice. Thanks for you all and some Wine maybe for me tonight.

Had my ERPC today. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask.

@falalalalalalablahblah hugs to you Flowers how are you feeling? Hope all is as well as it can possibly be in your situation.

It’s no real comfort at all, but in the first days after so got home I made special effort to have sushi/wine/cheese etc - figured if things were (so drastically) not going the way I had so badly hoped I might as well enjoy what I could in the circumstances.

falalalalalalablahblah · 07/01/2022 23:59

@HelloViroids thank you - that's very kind. I'm sore and sad, had the kind of cry that you usually see in films (clawing walls, banging head etc) which was horrible but very cathartic.

I'm very much looking forward to a gin and tonic over the weekend. I'm still off fish and cheese so the sushi may have to wait til the Spring Grin and I'd like to lose the 10lbs I put on (no idea how, I couldn't bloody eat anything) in the last 12 weeks, although dieting and exercise is boring to me!

I'm very lucky to have a cracking almost 3 year old to keep me merry at home.
Thanks again.

I’m so sorry for your loss Sad.

I’ve had 4 D&Cs after MMC. They’re grim but I think hugely preferable to being aware of the m/c if that makes sense.

Lots of rest now and TLC from those around you hopefully Flowers

falalalalalalablahblah · 08/01/2022 00:07

@BeMoreGoldfish I'm so sorry for your losses. I've been really well looked after. Thanks
