Missed Miscarriage at 10+2 weeks

Hi all,

We went for a 10 week scan so we could ‘safely’ tell our families at Christmas only to be told that the pregnancy was not viable and looked like it had died at 8+1/2 weeks. Obviously we are devastated but weirdly emotionally we are doing kind of ok. My cousin went through a really similar experience so I knew that this was something to expect.

I started passing small clots and bleeding on about the 27th December, a week after the scan and then we went for another scan at the EPAU on the 30th where they confirmed what we knew and gave me misoprostol. I took 4 tablets vaginally and then another 2, 3 hours later and then it seemed to kick in, in a really big way. I suppose what happened was the most painful and harrowing night of our lives. I passed huge clots and saw the sac pass, when that happened we were about 3 hours in and I had been having what I imagine to be contractions. Very intense grinding pain. These all eased once I passed the sac and a blood clot the size of my hand. (Sorry if TMI).
Now I’m just bleeding lightly and occasionally passing very small clots, the size of a pound coin to a slice of apple. Is this normal? And does anyone know how long I can expect to pass clots? I’m really worried that even though it felt like I couldn’t pass anymore that they might say it’s incomplete and I really don’t want to have to go through that all again.
Any help or advice is much appreciated!

Xx

Hi @Paisleypatch so sorry to hear what your went through. Sad I don't have experience in this but from what I've read it's normal not to pass everything in one go. Did you intact healthcare specialist? How are you feeling now?

@laurenGame Thank you so much for getting back to me. It has been awful but starting to feel better and I haven't passed any more clots in a few days, in fact bleeding and pain have almost stopped.
I'm trying to get an appointment at the EPAU to book a scan to make sure it's all complete but can't get through. Will keep trying :)

Thanks again! Xx

Hi @Paisleypatch sorry for your loss. It's such a difficult thing to go through both physically and mentally.

With one of my MC I passed it all over several hours in one night. Another one was initially similar and I thought it was all over but the next day the contraction pain started again and I passed a lot more. There was one final super clot then it was all over.

I hope that helps and you are doing ok. Thanks

@czycoup thank you so much for replying. I’m
So sorry that you have had to go through this too and I hope you are doing ok.
I had a very similar experience to you for your first MC by the sounds of things. I’ve had no more cramping and the bleeding is no similar to the last days of my period. So fingers crossed it’s kind of over and done with!

Xx

@Paisleypatch you sound very level headed (I'm sure you're extremely saddened).
Must have been so bloody hard to have this over the Xmas period too, but i guess it's a new year so could be a new bright start for you and DH? 🤞
