Chemical pregnancy and early testing

Hi all, sorry if this isn’t the right place to post.

I’m almost 100% certain I’ve had a chemical pregnancy, I tested positive on Monday and then on Wednesday last week started with horrible cramps (really bad, worse than normal period) and then bled for around 4 days.

EPU said to wait it out and Tommy’s confirmed my fears (they were amazing btw, if anyone needs support please do reach out to them)

My test lines have been getting lighter and like I say I’m sure this is all over for me now. But wondered if anyone else had similar experiences they wouldn’t mind sharing so I don’t feel so alone.

On another point what are people’s thoughts on early testing? After this I’m sure I won’t want to again...

Photo of my most recent test...I would be 5 weeks +3 days today 😔

I’m also very aware in the grand scheme of things I’m luck compared to some and I don’t want to upset anyone with this post Xxx

Hi, couldn’t leave you without a response. This has happened to me 8 times, most of which were consecutive cycles, plus two early miscarriages. It is hard I know to have hopes raised and dashed.

I have no answers yet - doing ivf to escape my monthly disappointments - but you definitely aren’t alone.

Yours might be a one off, they aren’t uncommon. Many women have one then success. One positive though, even with recurrent ones acc to my consult, is that it shows the mechanics are working. For me it like like age/egg quality, thyroid and nk cells are behind it. But everyone is different and this whole thing is a numbers game really.

I carried on early testing because I personally wanted the data to tell my doctor. As hard as it was. Others stop to avoid the heartbreak. Totally up to you.

Look after yourself, you aren’t alone so remember that. It’s just not talked about anywhere near enough. Flowers

Thank you so much for responding and your story. I absolutely agree these things aren’t talked about enough and in 2021 you still feel a bit like a failure.

It’s great we have places like this and it’s helped me loads over the past week to have posts to look through.

Wishing you all the absolute best and have a lovely Christmas 💐

Hi, I got my BFP on 5th Dec, started bleeding 2 days later. Mostly just spotting and it was brown, some very small clots. I've not had any cramping or pain.
I am still getting a BFP today at the EPU. They did US scan and internal and couldn't see anything. They have taken bloods to check my levels but I'm really not hopeful. I think I've had a chemical. So gutted 😢

Sjmc16 · 24/12/2021 09:15

Hi @Purple29 so sorry you’re going through this.

I can only speak from my own experience but my bleeding was linked to very bad pain, I also have tested negative just over a week after my bleed. So you might not be in the same boat, I know some bleeding early on can be normal! Brown blood is also old blood so could just be your womb having a clear out.

Keeping everything crossed for you, put your feet up and try and enjoy your Christmas 💐💕

@Sjmc16 they took my bloods and my hcg levels was on 84. So if I should be over 6 weeks I dont think there's much hope.
They couldn't get a full clear view of my uterus, its tilted back and to the side. So repeat bloods but not till 30th to see if levels have increased or dropped to 0. Which is what I'm expecting!!!

I am sorry OP, and everyone else that has to go through this rollercoaster of emotions. I wish Merry Christmas to all, and next Christmas we can all have babies.

I’ve had the last 3 months in a row this happen. Faint positives then get fainter pain then bleeding.
I wish I could resist testing early but I can’t wait. It’s been really upsetting for me and the pain physically has been quite bad.
Chemicals are really common unfortunately they don’t mean you can’t conceive and you seem to be more fertile after. Not sure this helps but this is my experience
I’m now dreading this month again 🙁

@Sjmc16 I’m so sorry for your loss. In some ways the first is the most painful. Sadly it is common and hopefully (and statically) will never happen to you again however it is worth writing this all down now so you have a record. All the dates of ovulation, positive test and when bleeding and cramping began etc. Photos of the tests and how dark they were on each day. If sadly it does happen again this info will be really helpful in getting you treatment as quickly as possible. Do whatever is best for your mental health 100%, but personally I always tested early so I had the information to know if it was chemical or failed implantation which was helpful long term when I went for recurrent miscarriage treatment. Best of luck! x
