I am new here and looking for abit of hope. we just gave birth to our beautiful baby girl at 16 weeks last week and had to have a medicated miscarriage to induce the labour… we are heartbroken after a long journey ttc and facing an early miscarriage last year with no children.

At the hospital the nurse thought the placenta came out when our baby girl did, however I had a scan today 2 weeks after and they can see blood clots (which they expect) and retained tissues. They said to wait and see if it passes, otherwise I will need a D&C. I am desperately trying to avoid a D&C as I had one last year and bled for 5-6 months after so was traumatised and I know the more you have the more likely you are to get scaring etc. Did anyone go through this and have any positive stories where retained product came out by itself?

Thanks so much for any support xx

I'm sorry you're going through this.
I've had a 2nd trimester loss last year and ended up with RPOC. I had an MVA 8 weeks after I'd given birth, at this point it was too late and I'd already had a chronic infection which the hospital initially thought was Covid hence why they wouldn't see me (early 2020, no testing yet...) This was only found out because I had 4 miscarriages after this and it's not an infection that is being treated through the NHS yet. Have they given you the option to medicate again? This can be tried...

Thanks so much for your reply and I’m so so sorry to hear what you went through. they told me medicated wasn’t an option again and if it doesn’t pass naturally soon they will need to do a D&C.. they have put me on antibiotics to try and prevent infection. It’s so hard not knowing what to do..

How are you doing now? Have they confirmed your infection caused your miscarriages? I am so sad to read your story xx

Maybe ask them about an MVA rather than a D&C as it's supposed to be gentler.

Thank you. I'm ok now, I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant after correct treatment for the infection... I had been given an antibiotic after the MVA but it didn't treat the bacteria that had caused all this... yes, it was definitely chronic endometritis (not to be confused with endometriosis...!) that caused the miscarriages. It's asymptotic too so most people don't know they have it.
