Apologies for the long post in advance!

Last week at 8 weeks and 4 days I started to have some period type bleeding that was the start of a miscarriage. I rang the Early pregnancy unit last week and they were wanting me to be scanned the next day but in the afternoon the bleeding got heavier which confirmed to me what was happening so I rang up and rearranged for this week.

My appointment was supposed to be tomorrow but I am still currently bleeding and I was hoping for them to postpone it until next week, as I thought that they would only be concerned if I was still bleeding after 2 weeks and it has only been 1.

When I spoke to them they were quite adamant that I need to be checked and scanned so I have kept my appointment but I am filled with dread and upset thinking about what they will do when checking me and I was hoping to get some advice or some of your experiences about what they will actually do and check?

The thought of having an internal check or ultrasound while I am still bleeding is making me very upset and uncomfortable 😥 but I feel pressured to go as they seemed to sound concerned that I was still bleeding when it's only been a week

Hi, I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

It is very important to attend your appointment at the early pregnancy unit. Sometimes during a miscarriage, not everything comes away and leftover tissue inside of you can cause very serious problems if left untreated.

I totally understand that you feel uncomfortable with the idea of being examined whilst you are still bleeding, but please keep in mind that the person checking you will examine/scan bleeding women every day (for many different reasons).

I have had a scan at EPU due to bleeding last year and they diagnosed a miscarriage. Because my baby measured over 8 weeks (but had no heartbeat) I didn't need another scan to confirm (as is usual in early pregnancy). I was then able to choose what management option I wanted. I chose an MVA, which happened two days later. The staff were wonderful and so lovely to me throughout.

Again, I am so sorry this is happening. I wish you all the best x
