Progesterone

Hi, I've been given Progesterone pessaries to use during my first 12 weeks of pregnancy (to prevent miscarriage). Just wondering if there is an oral pill version that doctors can prescribe instead in the UK?

Many thanks!

Worth asking your GP but I haven't heard of any GPs that will do it.

Progesterone is expensive and that's why before the prism trial they wouldn't give it out unless it was the consultant.

Is there any issues as to why you need a oral version ?

Thanks for this, will check with my local Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic. I'm interested to know as I got a prolapsed blander, so sometimes inserting is a bit tricky!

Thank you Smile

You can insert in your bum too 🤣 I did both. DD is 2 years old. 3 losses before her. Worth it 😊

@heyhop I'm sorry about your losses ! Chat to the consultant and see I know in Spain when I was pregnant I managed to get the tablet form (but I had to take more as I was taking it orally)

I'm crossing everything for you love 💕

So sorry to hear about your losses, sounds like you've had quite a journey. 💕

Yes, I know yo can insert it in the bum, but rather take a pill!

Perhaps pills are available pre pregnancy only — and pessaries are only available while pregnant 🤷‍♀️. Does anybody know? Thanks again!

When you had the pills in Spain was that while trying to conceive or while pregnant?

(Maybe that’s the confusion for me, perhaps pills are available pre pregnancy only — and pessaries are only available while pregnant? )

Thanks again!

@heyhop no this is when I was pregnant (about 7 weeks) and I had started bleeding and panicking. My lovely of very pushy spainish friend frog marched me down to pharmacy and explained in very loud fast Spanish and they gave it to me.They give it over the counter over there for any type of bleeding in pregnancy. Tablet form but I had to take a higher dose than when I got home.

Seems the UK was way behind in the progesterone front so I'm unsure if Uk does tablet form but I know it does exist in other countries and not as contraption but as a preventative measure for bleeding.
