6 weeks and spotting + cramping

I feel for everyone who has had a miscarriage.

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and I've already had a miscarriage at 8 weeks last Feb 2021.

In February, I had cramps & diarrhoea and suddenly passed bright red blood. It was literally a bloody night and me and my husband (despite working in the medical field) felt really terrified with all the blood in the toilet while waiting for the pregnancy sac to pop out. When it finally passed, I felt a part of my soul being ripped out. Sorry TMI

I can't show pictures. It's far too graphic.

Anyways, at the moment, I've started spotting a brown discharge last Sunday up until today. I am also having light cramps as I type these words.

I have no kids yet and I am praying so hard to become a momma one day.

Anyone else on their first trimester and experiencing some spotting and cramping?
I wouldn't mind people sharing the colour if their discharge as well. I have pictures of my old discharge leading up to my miscarriage and it's darker than what I have now.

I'm not too hopeful though. I just want to fast forward to 12 weeks.... if the bean would choose to stick around. Please share your story too... It would be nice to know I'm not on my own in this journey...

I've been having brown spotting on and off. First time it was the day after we DTD. Now it seems to happen after a bowel movement. I've had a couple of period-like cramps, but probably like a week apart and lasting only seconds.
Have you thought about booking an early scan? I have one next week and hoping it'll all look alright and give me some reassurance. I'm currently 7 weeks, 1 day.

heyheyapple · 18/06/2021 21:55

What was the color of your discharge? Sorry TMI

Yes I have considered having an early scan but the EPAU won't give me one unless my spotting and cramping worsens. The private scans are also far too expensive but me and my husband are looking to book one for when I reach 7 weeks next week.

Last Feb as well, they gave me a scan at 6 weeks and we saw a heartbeat. Only to miscarry anyway at 8 weeks so I am afraid actually. I feel like this is deja vu. I know all pregnancies are different but this pregnancy feels like it's following a very similar path.

Please update us about your scan if you don't mind. Is this your first pregnancy?

It is my first, yes. Very anxious about my private scan as I've had the spotting, a tiny bit of cramping (just twice in the space of a week) and just not really any symptoms! I am fearing for the worst.

The spotting is always brown. It has eased off again now, and it back to milky white discharge.🤞

Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I'm glad you're back to your normal white discharge. That's a really good sign!

I had super tiny spotting today and I felt a lot better today than yesterday. Praying I go back to my normal white discharge too.

@heyheyapple @Trinacham hello, would either of you mind updating me on how things went for you? I'm really hoping all was okay.

I'm currently experiencing something similar at 6 weeks, had small amount of pink discharge yesterday, a few streaks of red blood this morning and then a small amount of broken discharge for the rest of the day. I hope that's the end of it!

I went to a&e and they referred me to the epu, but as its the weekend I'm waiting to hear from them.

Hey @pippabg I had another bleed later on. It was a big gush at night, bright red. There was so much blood that I ended up fainting and falling down the stairs! My healthy baby boy is now nearly 9 months old. Just goes to show that bleeding can be normal for some of us (I never did find out why it happened). I have my 🤞 for you.

I've been through this too! @pippabg
I'm also another one who had bleeding at 6 and a half weeks, and I'm talking like quite heavy red bleeding, it was my first pregancy too and I assumed the worst because my bleeding lasted for 2 days before I finally got seen by the epau,
Everything was fine, they couldn't find a cause for the bleeding, and my daughter is now a healthy and happy 7 year old!
I still bled for a couple of days after before it turned round, it was like a period, and like I said they never found out what it was or what caused it.
My mum also bled heavy with me at 9 weeks pregnant, it's not always bad news so try not to get to stressed about it ( I know easier said than done) but I'm sure everything will work out fine for you too!

@Unknown455 @LT2 thank you so much for responding, they are both very reassuring stories! Husband and I have been trying to conceive our first for over a year and had a loss at 5 weeks in May, so we're worried about the same happening. Just going to have to take each day as it comes...

heyheyapple · 17/10/2022 05:08

Hello @pippabg and thanks for checking up on me and @Trinacham. Sadly, I lost my pregnancy back in July 3, 2021 (I think 7 weeks) but since then got pregnant again and now a mother to a 2 month old son. My 3rd pregnancy was exactly the same as my first 2! I bled every week (pink and brown) until I reached 21 weeks which made me doubtful about the pregnancy. I had an internal swab taken and the midwife found thrush which can cause bleeding/spotting. I was given a vaginal medication and it stopped the spotting until I delivered my baby.

Based on my experience, I can say that I am one of those people who normally spots and bleeds during pregnancy but I would definitely get checked for thrush again to be sure.

O dear, I feel your worry about everything being so early on and for the spotting episode. I pray you get some answers soon. Maybe it's just an implantation bleed? Please do update us 🙏🏻

@heyheyapple congratulations on your baby boy! I remember your other thread where you announced your sad news and I often wondered what was going on with you now. Really pleased to hear your update!

pippabg · 17/10/2022 14:06

@heyheyapple I'm so sorry to hear about the miscarriage, but delighted to hear that you're now a mother! Wonderful news! It's also reassuring to know that there wasn't much difference in terms of the brown discharge between the pregnancies that ended in loss and the one that resulted in your beautiful baby.

Saying that, I'm still getting the brown discharge and I'm really on edge! The EPU called and I have a scan tomorrow at 11:30. The message I'm getting is that it seems to be 50/50 which way it goes. Please send me all the good vibes you can! This baby is so wanted.

Trinacham · 17/10/2022 15:03

Sorry, just realised I named changed since this thread! I am Trinacham/LT2

pippabg · 18/10/2022 12:44

Quick update: had the scan and all was fine! They said they even saw a little heartbeat! Feel so relieved. The doctor prescribed me progesterone. Does anybody have experience using this in pregnancy?

heyheyapple · 25/10/2022 14:08

@pippabg I was actually quite desperate during my third pregnancy and a good friend gave me 6 progesterone pessaries (left overs from her IVF pregnancy). I inserted one every time I had a bleed/spot.

I'm not sure if that helped with my pregnancy but I sure was able to carry my baby to term! 🤔 How are you doing now?

OP posts:
pippabg · 01/11/2022 09:53

@heyheyheyapple thanks for checking in. I've been taking the progesterone for nearly two weeks and things seemed to be clearing up, but the brown discharge started again yesterday and continues today.

EPU said to only be concerned if its red blood soaking a pad, but it causes me so much anxiety when I see it and I worry it's the beginning of things getting worse. Currently 8+3.
