Unexpected miscarriage at 13 w 2 d

Yesterday morning I started having mild cramps in my abdomen. I decided it was down to growing pains as I was 13 weeks 1 day pregnant. I ended up going to the emergency gynecologist last night at around 7 pm. 2 doctors performed an internal exam on me as well as a transvaginal ultrasound. I didn’t expect it but the baby was there on the screen and it’s heart was beating. The doctor said everything looks perfect. He prodded my cervix hard and blood gushed out during the internal exam. He took my temperature and my blood and I was told an hour later I have an infection and need to stay overnight.

All night long I was having contractions and I was given 1 paracetamol tablet as one of the treating doctors said he didn’t want to give me too much despite me moaning in pain all night and I didn’t sleep a wink. All throughout the night the nurse came in to change my pads and check on me.

At around 8 AM this morning I finally got an IV drip with pain relief and an antibiotic. This didn’t help the contractions which were coming every 3 minutes. It made the cramps constant. I was so drowsy from the pain laying on the bed that when the nurses came to check on me I couldn’t even speak.

At about 10 AM I felt this sort of “pop” in my cervix and I thought it was just more blood as I was bleeding for the last couple hours. I didn’t have the energy to get up and check and I wasn’t allowed to move from my bed anyway. 2 hours later the nurse comes to check my pad for blood and we see the baby, hanging from me with it’s umbilical cord attached. She rushed me to the toilet and held the baby up with a maternity pad and pressed the emergency button for help. They brought me to theatre for a D&C within 20 minutes. No more pain after the D&C and I feel much better now despite having seen my much wanted baby hanging from me.

The doctor told me after the D&C that the baby possibly died because of the infection. They are now testing the placenta and the fetus and my bloods to try and figure out exactly what type of infection it was. I’m in a foreign country and while I speak the language, I don’t understand 100% of what they say so all I understand is that I had some sort of infection and my temperature was 37.9.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I want to add that when the doctors did the internal exam, they confirmed that my cervix was closed and they emphasized that I’d be treated for the infection, they never mentioned a possible miscarriage

Hi @Goodbee2052 I haven't experienced anything like this but just wanted to say I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds incredibly traumatic and scary for you. I hope that you're getting all the support you need right now

Hi op , I have been through the same situation I guess except I delivered my 11 week baby with its sack intact.
Everything was fine and on 15th I was having sudden contraction and within 10 minutes I was holding the sack.
But i passed huge flesh type clot before that and my cervix was dialated 3cm.
I also had to do d&c to remove the placenta.
Currently recovering from the trauma.
And preparing myself again for conception.

I’m so sorry for your loss, I haven’t experienced that exactly but it sounds really difficult and traumatic for you.
Can you ask for a translator to help with any more technical language in follow up appointments?
Big hugs xx
