When will it show negative?

I lost my baby 5 weeks ago (gest 6 weeks) now however it was a missed miscarriage and had medical management a week ago... everything went to plan and I passed everything (I was in hospital being monitored to ensure everything passed). 1 week on and still strong positive on test.

How long does it take to show negative? I am desperate to start trying again!

When will it show negative?

Sorry for your loss. I had a medical management 2 weeks ago and I haven't tested yet. My EPAS unit advised to test 3 weeks after the procedure so from that I'd imagine that it can take some time.

Perhaps, take another test next week?

Val0907 · 13/05/2021 21:29

@MissOrganisedMe OK thanks for that. No one has ever mentioned to me to take a test... I just seen this on here.

3 weeks seems like such a long time to wait!

Sorry for your loss too! Xx

Yes the EPU should have told you to test 3 weeks after the procedure.

It can be very variable- I took 9 weeks to test negative but was much further along so hcg much higher, so I wouldnt worry youd be anywhere near that long

I'm so sorry for your loss. When I was sent home from the EPU, they included a dated pregnancy test in my leaving bag, which says I should test on the 3rd June, which will be 3 weeks from the date of the confirmed miscarriage.

I am sure it will be fine in your case but I had one in between first child and second. Kept testing positive. In the end I was sent for a scan and not all the contents had been removed. I had to go for a second time to have it removed because it looked a bit like a molar pregnancy. Was all fine after second procedure

It took me 5 weeks after medical management to get a negative unfortunately. I tested every second day, and had blood work done that confirmed it was going down, just so slowly.

@Rtmhwales
I wondered if you might be able to advise me. I had medical management 9 weeks ago. I did have retained product but was told around 4 weeks ago this has passed. I am still testing positive so the hospital did a HCG level which was 212.

Once you got to around 200, how much longer was it until you got a negative?

So sorry for your loss Sad
I've no idea to be honest, I think it varies massively.
How long it takes for the HCG to leave your system.
I had a strong positive test on 1st April (after IVF treatment)
HCG blood results were on the low side but still positive, but then halved instead of doubled so I was told it was a non viable pregnancy.
I have had 2 lightish periods now since then, internal and external scans at EPU showing nothing retained, but I am still having strong positive home pregnancy tests.
No idea why my body is clinging onto this hormone Confused but desperate to return to normal so I can try IVF again Sad
