Molar pregnancy

Hi there, desperately hoping someone can help me!

I had an MVA following my 4th miscarriage 5.5 weeks ago. I am not aware that they were intending to test / look at what they removed, but can only assume they must have done.

My period returned this week (though very light), and I finally got a negative pregnancy test.

Today I received a letter informing me I had been referred for testing following a molar pregnancy, and that I would shortly receive a testing kit. It was a bit of a shock to receive a letter branded "oncology dept" without any warning!

I am waiting to hear back from my hospital as to whether this is a mistake referral, or whether they just failed to tell me.

Is it possible for the embryo to have a heartbeat in a partial molar pregnancy? If my pregnancy tests are now negative and my cycle has returned, does this not indicate all has gone back to normal?

Thank you.

Hi @treesall, I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriages and the experience that you've had so far this time around. I'm really shocked that your hospital didn't speak to you or give you any advance warning about the referral.

I had a MMC at the end of March which was a partial molar pregnancy and I've been sending blood and urine samples to Charing Cross every two weeks. I'm afraid I don't know whether there can be a heartbeat in a partial molar pregnancy. My period came back a couple of weeks ago (also very light and short) and by that stage my hcg levels had fallen quite a bit although they still aren't normal (the levels in my urine are now but not in my blood). So I think it's probably a good sign that you've had your period, although in my experience it came back before my hcg levels reached normal. There is a lot of information on the Charing Cross website that you might find helpful: hmole-chorio.org.uk/

I started a thread on this a few weeks ago here if it's any help to read some other people's experiences: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/miscarriage/4207885-Partial-molar-pregnancy?watched=1&msgid=107318731#107318731

Take care.x

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply @MilkyWay123.

I've since managed to speak to the hospital where I had my MVA but they won't be able to tell me anything until Monday.

I'm really frustrated as I have my first private appointment for recurrent miscarriage on Monday, and it seems a bit pointless if I'm not actually able to ttc yet.

I hadn't thought to look on Charing Cross' website - will do that now. (That's who my referral is with too). Thanks also for sharing the link to your thread, that's really helpful and will read through in full this evening.

I'm sorry you are in a position to be able to share experience and advise - but very grateful to you that you have. X
