Acupuncture after MMC

I recently suffered a MMC at 9.5 weeks, first pregnancy :( (completed medical management at the weekend)
I was reading that acupuncture is good for healing and can help for future pregnancies. Does anyone have any experience?

Hi Conundrum,

I also had an MMC around 8.5 weeks in February, was also my first pregnancy. I'm sorry you're also in this awful club.

I've been having twice monthly acupuncture since and I love it! I am still experiencing complications following my MVA (retained products and probably going to need to have the procedure again but that is a story for a different thread) so I can't say the acupuncture has healed me or helped me to conceive again but it's certainly been restorative and has felt a bit like therapy. If you can find an acupuncturist who specialises in women's health/fertility you may find that especially beneficial. Good luck with it all, hope we both get our babies soon :) xx

Really sorry that your first pregnancy ended in miscarriage OP. I started having acupuncture after my second baby died at full-term as we were struggling to conceive again after two years of trying. Sadly I went on to have 3 miscarriages but am now 34 weeks pregnant. I can honestly say that the acupuncture really helped me to get through some tough times. As the previous poster said, it's important to find someone that specialises in women's health as it will make a huge difference. Each session is like therapy and relaxation all in one. It has definitely helped me to reduce stress and find some balance in my life again. I hope that it does the same for you x

I don't want to say is for fertility pay for more when i don't really have to?

thank you in advance

Morning @Saraaaa I’m sorry you’ve been through this as well.

My understanding is that like doctors, acupuncture practitioners have specialisms so some might be good with muscular issues or sports injuries etc whereas the woman I saw had a specialism in women’s health. I personally think it was worth seeing someone with this specialism as there is quite a lot of talking involved at the beginnings of the sessions (like therapy it’s great!) so I think you’d want someone with an interest in what you’ve been through as well as the skills to help you overcome it with the needles.

I definitely think acupuncture helped me get my periods back again - I had a MMC and 2 MVAs and no periods for 12 weeks after so I was in a right old pickle. My cycles are still a bit out of whack but at least it seems to be functioning now. Would recommend!

@Norberta

Good morning thank you for replying
There’s this Chinese herbal shop near me
Which also specialises in fertility at the back they have message area, acupuncture etc
So I am guessing they specialise in women health. I thought I can get any acupuncture from any place and does the job haha.
Thank you @Norberta

I had MC 2 weeks ago @7 weeks Saddest day of my life! I have stressful job and I get stressed quite easily definitely trying the acupuncture.

@Saraaaa I’m so sorry it’s the worst thing to go through. We are all part of the same horrible club that no one wants membership to…

All I can say is that it does get better with time. I thought I would die from sadness and I was so frustrated waiting for my period after and just feeling so unwell for ages but now I’m very much my old self 5 months or so later so you too will heal!

Sending love xx

@Norberta

Is just those things you don’t think about or even imagine happening to you! Thank you for courage.

How long does it take to get your first normal period back?

Norberta · 28/06/2021 15:26

@Saraaaa it took 12 weeks for me. And I’m on my second cycle now which is much longer than usual. Think it can just take a long time so try to be patient it’ll come in the end!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Those initial few weeks after my MC were the darkest of my life.

If your period doesn't come back 4-6 weeks after a MC i would suggest getting a scan. My MMC in April has led to 3 rounds of medical management, an ERPC and most recently a hysteroscopy. There was tissue there that wouldn't budge and I had to fight to get the hysteroscopy.

Best of luck x

@Norberta

That's a long time

This might sound stupid do you ovulate during that?

Saraaaa · 28/06/2021 19:01

@Conundrum12345
Sorry to hear about what you went through
And thank you for giving me the heads up I will keep an eye it.
I had ectopic pregnancy I had to get a surgery, I noticed period like bleeding which I am guessing is the miscarriage bleeding that now seems to be stopping slowly so is count down for me next week.

Norberta · 28/06/2021 19:15

@Saraaaa I don’t think I was ovulating but I track my temperature which is how I knew I wasn’t.

Saraaaa · 28/06/2021 23:08

@Norberta

okay thank you x
