Chemical miscarriage?

Hey,
Just wondering if anyone's been through this? I found out I was pregnant last week, my last period was in January and the dates would mean I was around 6 weeks ish. I took three tests, two were very faint and the third (a clearblue one) was a very bold clear positive.

This week I had slight cramps (like the start of a period) and very, very light spotting on and off for 3 days. Only once when I wiped was there red blood but it was no where near like my period. Sorry if this is tmi.

Anyway, I went for a scan this morning (checking it out as I'd been bleeding) and they told me they couldn't see anything in my uterus. They also took a urine sample which was negative and they told me three things could have happened...

Either I've had a chemical pregnancy and my body's absorbed the pregnancy back into itself, I've had a really early miscarriage.. Or... It's too early to show up on an ultrasound. They told me to retake a test in two weeks to see if I get a positive result.

It's just boggled my head really. Wondering if it's happened to anyone else? Surely, if it had of been an early miscarriage there would be clots and heavy bleeding? I've had one before so I thought I'd know what to expect...

I was late for my period last week so took a cheap test and it was positive, bought a clear clear blue test which was also positive. I started bleeding yesterday and now seem to be having a really heavy period. Took a pregnancy test last night and it was negative.

Maybe take another pregnancy test in a few days?

Yeah I will, I've started bleeding more heavily today with cramps.

Oh dear, it doesn't sound hopeful I'm afraid but doesn't mean you can't have a normal pregnancy in the future. Virtual hugs to you Flowers

Hey just wanted to let you know that this happened to me too, except i didnt start bleeding until my next missed period. not even a drop of blood. US showed nothing but thick womb lining and tests were soooo faint and then negative. Chemical pregnancies are horrible experiences, and I am really sorry this happened to you too mama.

I had this but because I didn’t have an early scan I didn’t find out until 12 weeks, I spotted just after my positive test, did another test a couple of days later still positive, no further bleeding but on my scan there was nothing there. I still haven’t bled dispite having a confirmed negative blood result 3 weeks ago. I have started to have cramps last week and thought maybe my period was finally returning but it hasn’t. Sorry you are going through this too. I was so confused by the lack of bleeding and couldn’t find many stories where it was the same

Hey guys, thanks for the responses,

Thought I'd update you. So, about a day after I wrote this I got really bad cramping the next day.. Followed by clots (not a lot but enough to know it wasn't normal for me) then bled for a week without any more clots. It was like a normal period.

I took another pregnancy test on the night before I was due to go back into hosp to check if I was still pregnant, got a very faint positive but did 2 more tests the next morning and both were negative. (you can image how battered my head was trying to work out what was going on with my body)

I took one two days ago and still negative so I'm presuming I did have a really early miscarriage. I'm so sorry for anyone going through this too. X

@Summerwine123 What doesn't also help are the doctors complete blase attitude towards this! Especiall with confusing tests! No answers either on conflicting tests I bet?

@MrsF111 I am so sorry that happened to you. They couldn't even tell me why I didn't bleed even though I had stopped being pregnant and completely useless. Everything online says Chemical pregnancies are straight forward. Positive then negative tests and bleeding. that's it. How are we supposed to know we are no longer pregnant without bleeding? I went to A&E nearly 8 weeks because I had really really bad cramps and could barely move and was worried it was ectopic! Then 6 days after my 2nd period was due I started bleeding, but I already knew then there was nothing in there and tests were now negative (only 3 days before found out). Doctors couldn't tell me anything other than probs misscarried early....

So sorry it happened to you too! I am too going through it right now! My ClearBlue digital said 1-2 weeks last Sunday, and this Sunday, today, I am on day 4 of my period. I have read so much about female body in the last 4 days that I didn't in my 31 years on this earth. I didn't know how badly I wanted a baby! And now I sit here wondering if we put if off for too long. I wanted to reach to a certain level in my career, we wanted to be homeowners before we started TTC, and now I feel like it's too late. We started TTC in after my Feb cycle, and in March I conceived and lost it too. I don't want to wait for long before TTC again. How long should I wait? Anything I should be doing to make sure it doesn't happen again? I am so lost!

Bumping my own post.

I'm sorry for all your losses ladies 💕

@IrishMaa there's nothing you can do to avoid chemical losses or a loss at any other time in a pregnancy. You can try straight away as long as there's no health related reason not to and you feel mentally ready to try again.

I've had 5 chemical losses in a row. I'm 28, trying for 8 months, never had a reason to think I would struggle carrying a pregnancy but here we are.

Chemical pregnancies are much more common than we know and there's such little research about them which doesn't help.
