Miscarriage slow dropping HCG HELP

Hi all, completely new here so hope I’ve done this right.

I found out I was pregnant on the 9th of January. Complete surprise be a happy one. I don’t have any children and have only been pregnant one but miscarried in 2018.

Working from lmp I would of been around 5 weeks 6 days. I started spotting blood Saturday and had some mild pain low down on my right side and called 111 and got sent to out of hours who sent me up to gyne. Upon examination they said they could see blood and my cervix was slightly open. I had an ultrasound but there was no sign of pregnancy (no doubt too early anyway) I was told to come back Tuesday for another test to compare levels when the nurse rang with results she said they were originally 289 and had only dropped by 20 so had to come back again this morning for another. When the nurse rang me again this afternoon they had her again only dropped by around 20 so I have to go back again in a week for another.

I’m just so confused by it all. If I had already had the miscarriage I have hardly bled at all literally just spotting that goes between red and brown in amounts that barely transfer on to a pad and now it’s starting to stop so surely this can’t of been it? My last one I was only around 4 weeks I bled heavily with clots for about 2 days.

My boobs are still really tender and I’ve just been feeling general crap in myself. Really fatigued, sickly, random stitch like pains and feeling hot and sweat without having a fever. I decided to take two weeks off of work as I’m struggling both mentally and physically but I feel guilty about that too.

Any advice, similar stories or information would be amazing as I can’t talk to many people about it as i haven’t told anyone. Thanks x

Hi Alexandra,
I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. It sounds quite similar to what I experienced in Oct / Nov - around 6 weeks I had some light spotting (also varied red to brown), my hcg was rising, but not nearly enough (and low to start with), and nothing on an ultrasound. The EPU continued to monitor me over the next few weeks - my hcg got to about 1000, but stayed pretty static, and they were able to find a gestational sac, but really small. I then had a period-like bleed, but scan showed the sac was still there. I went for an MVA just before Christmas, and then bled a bit after that.
I hope the hospital are taking good care of you - I had a few weeks of going in for monitoring before I decided to go the MVA route.
Take care!

Thanks for replying, I’m sorry you had to go through that too. I hope everything is okay now.

I just find it odd with them dropping not rising but just by small amounts. I guess my levels aren’t high anyway so maybe there just isn’t any tissue to pass but my conception date was definitely the 25th and I tested positive on the 9th and had inplation bleeding the week before
