Recovering from miscarriage - self care tips?

Hi everyone. I know the advice is to be kind to yourself, take things slowly etc. I wondered if people have practical tips on how to recover from miscarriage? What worked for them? It feels like such a big physical and emotional ordeal, and I’m so drained. I want to know what practical things to focus on, like you’d know how to help your recovery from a sports injury. What does our body need now? How do we take care of ourselves to recover well? Flowers

I would recommend:

Just after:
Use of hot water bottle as a back or tummy pain relief method
Ibuprofen

Next few weeks
More sleep than usual
A liquid iron supplement
Gentle exercise like walks, hikes
Healthy but not calorie controlled food

Relaxation (all of this is preference):
Baths
Body pampering like face masks etc
Podcasts on the walks

Hi. I’m very sorry for your loss. I had a medical management of a miscarriage in December. I just tried to make sure I got lots of rest and also kept very hydrated. I also got DH to get me my favourite cupcakes from a local bakery. I ate them snuggled in bed with a hot water bottle and nice book- I felt a little better being kind to myself and taking each day one by one. All the best to you xx

Hi @90snostalgia2020, I’m so sorry for your loss.

I couldn’t agree with the above more, for me in particular - I found the following helped me.
First and foremost - Take time off work. It’s necessary for you to physically recover and take time to digest what has happened.
I came off social media also, just needed a break from pregnancy announcements.
Peppermint tea - I suffered terribly with bloating and this seemed to relieve it.
Hot Water Bottles.
Sleep - literally as and when required no matter what time of day - as you say it’s so draining.
Podcasts - Giovannia Fletcher covers miscarriage in quite a few of her interviews and despite it being really sad I found it so comforting to know I wasn’t alone.
Iron tablets - I felt really weak and these helped with the first two weeks after my miscarriage.
And yoga. Gentle exercise just helped me focus on something else. Take care xxx
