Ovulating after miscarriage. PLEASE HELP!

Hi all.
I had a missed miscarriage late December, my pregnancy sadly ended at 7+4. I opted for the medical management and had pains and bleeding for 14 days.

Yesterday I noticed EWCM (lots of it) so I know I am around ovulation. This would be 18 days after miscarriage. My partner and I bd the last couple of days as we just don't want to miss a chance and the hospital advised we could start trying again when we were ready to.

However I took a pregnancy test today and it is still a very faint positive from my miscarriage. Sorry if this seems silly but can you actually ovulate if levels of HCG are still there from miscarriage?

I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me out or share any experiences? We do not have any other children and are worrying a little now.

Hi @Natalie3387 I had a MM at 11 weeks beginning of December and had surgical management. I've read a lot online that it's not possible to ovulate whilst hcg is still on your system but I'm not convinced.

It took until just over 3 weeks for me to test negative. I started taking OPKs 1 day after my negative (just to see where I was in my cycle more than anything) and everything was blank which puzzled me until AF arrived on 2nd January so I'm convinced I must have ovulated during the time that my test was still positive!

I too have had a similar experience. I miscarried at 9 weeks at the beginning of December. In my absolute despair to try again, I’d read about women who had ovulated whilst testing positive so as soon as my bleeding stopped 7 days later. I used an OPK and it tested positive - in fact it was my peak, but I was still having positive pg tests so put it down to that inn mind of what the nurse said. We avoided ttc whilst I continued to test - opks dropped, but my pg test remained positive until two weeks later. I’ve been waiting to see if the opks tests +ive again and they haven’t, in fact my AF arrived today. So I’m convinced my initial positive was genuine and not as a result of HCG - because surely my opks would have continued to test as positive until my negative pg test. So I wouldn’t rule it out! 😘 x

Maybe I should have taken the pregnancy test first as I'm slightly worried now if I have ovulated and have dtd a couple of times recently. I don't want to cause any further complications or increase my risk of miscarriage again if there are still retained products there. But hey hindsight is a great thing!

It is possible to ovulate when your hcg levels are low! So you could conceive again

@Natalie3387 I wouldn’t worry. It’s such a difficult time to think straight when you’re so upset! But in all honesty I don’t think there is any “right” way - what will be will be! The important thing is to be
positive - it will happen :) x

I'm worried I would have caused infection but I would have kicked myself if I missed that chance. But on the other hand it could still be a rise in hCG.
Could you give an update on your position?

I'm really sorry to hear of your loss. I hope you find some comfort knowing your certainly not alone in this awful experience.

Today will be 4 weeks since I had medical management for my miscarriage. I was asked to take a pregnancy test last Wednesday (13th) I took 2 (different brands) and they both came back positive. The EPU asked me to come back the same day. They took a urine sample and it came back negative so they discharged me. I left feeling more confused than ever. I went home and took several more, all coming back positive. I wanted answers so I phoned my GP the next day. Blood tests and urine samples were done. I found out on Friday (15th) that my HCG levels were at 21. The doctor told me it is possible to ovulate with low levels of HCG but he didn't specify how low. I have to have bloods taken again to see if the levels are dropping or rising which could indicate a new pregnancy.

In regards to positive OV the doctor did say they will show positive if HCG is still present but did not rule out ovulation at this time. As long as you have stopped bleeding I don't think you need to worry too much about infection.

I too had some bloods taken today and my next lot on Wed to see how my levels are.

I have a constancy sharp pain on/near right ovary. And also I did a pregnancy test yesterday and today and today's was stronger than yesterday's. Did yours show different when you tried all of yours?

No worries, I'll try to help where I can. Even though I'm probably just as confused as you are. We'll be in it together!

When did you suffer your miscarriage? If I did ovulate it was around 19 days after my miscarriage. This is a little later than I usually ovulate my cycle but I guess they will be all over the place after miscarriage.

My pregnancy tests lines are fairly similar. I took one again today and it is still showing positive, faint but there.

I've had like a dull heavy ache since miscarriage but been having twinges since possible ovulation.

You'll have to keep me updated with how you get on with your blood results 😊

Good to feel not alone hey! I'm going slightly mad here not knowing anything and constantly researching the Internet. Which is never a good thing.

It's hard to tell really as my period was due on last Sat (got the bfp on the Sunday) and I slightly spotted then and until now really. Bleeding changed/varied in the week. I still get the odd brown blood now. So I can't really say a specific date. I wish I could as it would be so much easier but it seems to be prolonged.

The GP said today that you can't really ovulate whilst still bleeding. But I've read different. Like who is right?!

I'm now worried that because I have this constant pain in my ovary and stronger pregnancy test that maybe it's ectopic :(

The not knowing is just unbearable.

I've also requested for a urine test, will see if they get back to me tomorrow.

I've had one result back (343hcg) and had my other test this morning. I should get my results tomorrow... Im so so anxious.

I'm having my bloods done later this evening (my mother is law is a nurse) so will have to wait and see if they are going down or rising! I'm still getting these twingy stitch like cramps so who knows what's going on with me! It's been over 4 weeks since my miscarriage so AF could show her ugly face anytime soon!

I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed for you! Are you having any symptoms apart from the ovary pain you were having? xx

Well hopefully your tests will give you some idea on what's going on!!

I've got no other symptoms... Its so bizarre. I still have brown blood spotting.
And now also have a urine infection lol!
I have a strong feeling it will show ectopic tomorrow :(
So nothing like I originally thought.
I just need to prepare myself for it.

@Bx121 your levels seem fairly high, is that the first time you've had blood done since your miscarriage?

Op Have you been scanned since the miscarriage to check you have no retained products?

Sadly my HCG only increased slightly from 343 to 443. They have me going in for a scan today.
Gutted.
All is pointing to ectopic. :(

No, I haven't been for a scan unfortunately. The doctor said he would be concerned if the HCG levels were in the hundreds 3 weeks after miscarriage but because mine were only 21, he said we will repeat the bloods this week. Had them taken last night so just waiting for the results now xx

I had an ERCP for mmc on 7th Dec and have had scans every fortnight since as I had a small retained product. Today I finally got the all clear and a negative pg test. I've had no blood tests though. Seems every trust does different things

I'm glad you've finally got your negative result, as strange as that sounds.

Have you had a period since?

I had the medical management. If its not a new pregnancy then there must be retained products. I'll find out later on today xx

Scan didn't show anything which I predicted. They did see a simple cyst on that ovary but as it was simple they weren't concerned.
There was also an empty sac.
I had an internal and examination and no pain which they said was good.
My bloods came back after and doubled!! So I'm totally confused.
I am being treated for a urine infection with antibiotics but since taking them my ovary pain has pretty much gone.
I asked if the infection could have caused the pain in one ovary and she said yes absolutely.
But they have told me to come in if pain worsens or any blood.
Until then I have a scan booked in Thursday.
Still no answers just yet. Could be still be miscarriage as even though hcg now 844. It could be the increase before the drop. And they haven't ruled out ectopic or now, a normal pregnancy.
Urgh, so confusing to say the least.
I really don't want to get my hopes up :( xx

I'm sorry you're going through that, such a confusing and uncertain time 😞 the waiting game is just so awful.

I hope this week brings you some reassurance as to what's happening! Do you have any more symptoms? I never knew HCG can rise before it falls.

I phoned about my results yesterday and the receptionist told me that the doctor had put a note on my file to request a telephone consultation, so that's on Monday morning. I'm confused too xx

Yeah both the doc at the surgery and at the hospital have said there could be a rise before a fall.

I had a small clot type thing in the loo this morning which worries me :( haven't had a clot for a while just spotting and brown blood/coffee grounds.
But I do have breast tenderness which is also confusing.
And today was the first time since the 16th when I found out I was pregnant that I had a tiny bit of discharge in my underwear.
Plus I have slight period cramps.

I am just so confused. :(

So many things going on and no answers xx
