Pain after miscarriage

Hi there - hoping someone can give me some advice.

I had a MC on New Year's Eve at 8 weeks into my first pregnancy. Started bleeding brown blood on Monday and by Wednesday night it was bright red. Passed a lot of material during the day on NYE.

During the following night I had awful cramps to the point I couldn't stand up on New Years Day. Called EPAS who told me to get my DH to bring me in for assessment. Pain was horrendous.

Was treated amazingly and examined visually by doc with speculum. Probably the most traumatic experience of my life. The consultant examining me found some tissue that appear trapped at my cervix and thought that was the last of it and what was causing the pain. This was removed and she checked to see my cervix was closed, which is was. I was monitored for a couple of hours for bleeding before being sent home with the instructions to take a pregnancy test in 2-3 weeks to check for BFN. They were satisfied my MC was complete.

No pain yesterday however had heavy bleeding as expected. Today the cramping has gone up a gear and is now really quite sore - coming in waves like the other day. I also have some almost stabbing pains going up through me occasionally that take my breath away. Could there be tissue still there that is causing this?

I expected bleeding and discomfort for a while but how much discomfort is too much?

Thank you for any advice or similar experiences during this awful time.

I thought I'd update this post incase the information is useful to anyone at some point.

The pain and cramping subsided over the weekend thankfully. I had some small clots pass and a lot of blood (sorry if TMI) and I recon that might have been the cause. I was able to stay away from painkillers yesterday - so day 3 after MC. I wanted to know if cramping had really stopped which today it has at least so far.

Still bleeding but not as heavy. At no point have I soaked through pads although there has been a fair amount in the toilet and when I wipe.

I guess I'm now dealing with the mental side of things which has been pretty rough tbh. I think once the bleeding stops it will be easier.

I'm so sorry for anyone else going through this. Its still early days but I feel the experience has really changed me but I suppose I'm now feeling quite numb. I guess it's all part of the grieving process Daffodil

Thanks for sharing your experience @Mandy8338 and I'm so sorry you had to go through it. I might be going the through the same now, waiting for scan. Hoping you get through this with the help and support of loved ones and MN-ers x 💐

Sorry for your loss, I MC at 11 weeks end of Nov.
Had no idea that I’d have contractions to MC, yes was very very painful and was sore for around 1 week after and bled for about 5 days post MC.
Then another 30 days and just had a normal bleed.

Hope you’re doing ok. Even though our MC were early, I still did a goodbye ceremony in my local woods for my little one, it was an enormous help for my healing and grieving process Flowers

@Lililou I really hope everything has been ok. How did your scan go? I'm wishing for the best for you, I really am!

@Namechangedforthisoct2 that's a lovely idea about a ceremony. I'm finding I'm coping with things better than I thought I would. After a couple of bad days over the weekend it's been an ok-ish week.

I'm still bleeding but it's definitely becoming less heavy. I don't have cramps during the day but past couple of evenings they have come on quite badly. I'm able to sleep through it so it's been manageable.

Thank you @Mandy8338, unfortunately it wasn't the news we wanted 🙁

I’ve been through this and just be very sure that it’s not an incomplete miscarriage. That’s what mine turned out to be an it was bedlam! Started to bleed uncontrollably, had to head to hospital where they gave me pills to speed up the process, the pills didn’t work and ended up in surgery for a D&C. I hope everything goes ok. I would be pushing for a scan if I was you.💕

@Lililou I'm so so sorry. I really hope you are doing ok though only being a few days ahead of you I can only imagine. I hope you have good support. Please reach out if you need to talk.

@Princessbanana I'm also hoping this is complete. I was thinking about seeing if I can get a scan next week if the evening cramps keep up. They've been a bit bad tonight but I'm just passing mostly brown blood now like the end of a period (sorry if tmi) and I wonder if my body is just dealing with the last of it. I've never experienced this before so I'm not really sure what to expect and everyone seems to have such individual experiences. I hope things all worked out for you in the end though. What a terrible time.
