positive pregnancy test after miscarriage

I had 2 miscarriages in 2018 and since then we have ttc, but without much luck. We have been refereed to the fertility clinic this year in June. And they suggested to have HYCOSY which can increase the chance of getting pregnant, I had the HYCOSY in October. Well we got pregnant, but unfortunately I had my 3rd miscarriage on the 4th December (at 5 weeks). I have been bleeding since and have contact the fertility clinic and they will also involve the recurrent miscarriage clinic. If i am still bleeding on Thursday they will contact me back and discuss the next steps. At the moment the bleeding is very light, so it might be that by Thursday it will stop.

But my question is, on the 17th December i got a negative pregnancy test. Because my breasts were still tender i took another pregnancy test and in the last 2 days the pregnancy test came back positive and breasts are still big and tender. I have read online and I know the hormones and all the symptoms can last up to 2 months. I have lost the other pregnancies at a similar stage and the pregnancy test came back negative pretty quick. So until I speak with the doctor on Thursday, I was just curios to see if this is normal, if any of you guys had any similar stories.

I'm so sorry for you recent loss

When you took another test two days later after the negative, was it the same brand? I know different brands can detect different amounts of hcg. If it was a different brand then maybe it detects a lower hcg than when you got the negative?

Also, i have heard the hcg levels can fluctuate but I'm not 100% on that.

I hope you get the answers you need.

Hi @Rachyb87

Thank you for your kind words. Yes it was a different make of pregnancy test (as i could not get hold of the same make again). I managed to get my hands on the same make again and I will take a new test tomorrow before the call with the doctor.
My concern (now) is that is an incomplete miscarriage and could lead to infection. We will have to see. I am not in any pain, but the bleeding it almost stops (just tiny amounts when wiping and nothing on pad) and then it picks up again (but still light bleeding).
I am a bit numb at the moment and i want it to be over now. Unfortunately the fertility clinic doctor said to not TTC until we speak with the recurrent miscarriage clinic and have further test. Even if all the test that we had done until now, they have not found anything wrong. Very frustrating! Trying to stay positive.

I can really feel you there. I've had two miscarriages myself. The first almost 7 years ago and it was so traumatic, ended up needing an emergency d&c and this one was literally like a heavy period so i was even unsure if the pills had worked 😂

An incomplete miscarriage could be a possibility but hopefully it's just your hcg levels and there just playing about so to speak.

I bled for 1 week after mc then lightly spotting for a further week and nothing since. Just praying af comes soon.

Yes, take the test tomorrow and hopefully that will clear things up for you abit. Good luck with calling the doctor. Hopefully they will scan you to rule out incomplete mc. I had a scan at 3 weeks after and i was so reassured knowing everything had passed.

@Rachyb87 I am sorry to hear about your miscarriages. Hope everything works out fine.

And thank you for replying to my message. It was helpful to just put this in words, instead of spinning in my head.

Hope you have a lovely Christmas.
