Possible etopic pregnancy after miscarriage

I had a miscarriage 5 weeks ago and found out I'm pregnant again since it was straight after I've had blood tests which are showing hcg levels are around 1000 odd it's definitely a new pregnancy as I've had a scan and everything from my miscarriage is gone but they couldn't see a sign of new pregnancy so it's been labelled as a "pregnancy of unknown location" could either be really early to see anything or an etopic. Has anyone had anything similar? If so what were your results? I'm guessing I'd be around 4-5 weeks but I'm leaning towards it been an etopic if they can't see anything in my womb now.

If you've had an etopic how did they end pregnancy? I'm really nervous of having to have surgery

Hey, so sorry as it sounds like you are having a tough time of it.

I was diagnosed with PUL but unfortunately was ectopic. They couldn’t find it on a scan but my blood levels indicated it, have you had bloods done?

I did need to have laparoscopy to diagnose my ectopic and they have to go through my abdomen to remove it as it was larger than expected. At the time I was desperate to avoid surgery and avoid losing a tube - plus I was totally petrified of the idea of it!

I hope this isn’t the way it goes for you but if it does they see this quite a lot and speak to the nurses and consultants, they will try and reassure you. As soon as I went into the theatre I thought god just put me under now as I couldn’t stand the build up to it or anticipation anymore. When they did start putting me under I blinked once, and the second time I blinked I had woken up and it was over. It was quicker and easier than falling asleep.

This was my first surgery and if I can do it I can assure you, you can. Again I hope this isn’t the outcome for you, you are quite early on so hopefully that’s why they can’t see it xx

@Chica1990 yes I've had 2 lots of bloods done 48 hours apart that showed my hcg levels had doubled although they didn't tell me if that's good or not I'm guessing it's a positive thing so far? I have a scan booked next week to see if they can see anything I'm absolutely dreading it

Can I ask if you had any signs of the ectopic pregnancy? I've tried looking it up but only read about pains & feeling unwell as side effects

I didn't know mine were ectopic until they ruptured - I had no symptoms/warning signs and hcg was doubling normally although both mine were rare ectopics in that they were perfectly healthy babies with heartbeats just in the wrong place

Chica1990 · 20/12/2020 08:17

@GeeHO98 if they are doubling I think that’s really positive! How far along will you be when it comes to your next scan?

I had a lot of bleeding for weeks (before I realised something was wrong) and did have cramps in my back which were not blindingly painful but were on the same scale as period pains that I needed painkillers for. Have you had bleeding or pain?

GeeHO98 · 20/12/2020 10:00

@Chica1990 no bleeding or bad pain did have bellyache similar to period pains at first but not in the last week I'd say

I'm not quite sure since I don't know when I ovulated with me not having a period after my miscarriage but it could be anywhere from nearly 6 weeks to 4 I'm guessing so I'm hoping it's just too early too see

I don’t think they can see anything on a scan until week 6 and if you’re not totally sure how far along you are then hopefully it’s just a case of being early!

Are you booked in for another scan in a couple of weeks?

GeeHO98 · 21/12/2020 22:13

@Chica1990 booked in for a scan Christmas Eve a week after the last they said with my levels been 3000 odd on my last lot of bloods last week they should be able to see something by then so I guess it's a waiting game now unfortunately

Hi @GeeHO98 I'm sorry you're in limbo at the moment. I know the waiting can we very hard, constant worrying and wondering what is happening.
I've had 3 ectopics.
My first one I presenting with dark, almost black (sorry tmi) spotting and a slight cramp in the left side - this resulted in the removal of the left tube. I was 5.5 weeks.
The next one I was very much pregnant - hcg levels were around 11000 but they said it was a PUL as they couldn't see anything on scan - this resulted in surgery to locate the pregnancy, which was actually hidden near the remnant of the previous tube removal. I was again 5.5 weeks with this one
Most recent ectopic presented as extreme pain, I mean the worst pain I have ever experienced and a fainting episode. Hcg levels had been monitored days after I initially found out I was pregnant (before the pain started) and the hcg levels were doubling as a 'normal pregnancy' but they didn't want to scan too early as generally they can't see much on ultrasound if hcg is under 1000.
I subsequently went on to rupture the remaining tube. I would have been around 6.5weeks.

I'm really sorry my story isn't a positive one but I wanted to give my experience.
If your hcg levels are 3000, they should be able to see something on a vaginal ultrasound. I would have quite a low threshold to seek medical attention if you experience any pain or spotting.
I hope you get good news on Christmas Eve.
X

@coffeewithmilk thank you & i'm sorry you had to go through that it sounds horrific I hope your okay and got the support you needed x

I'm not sure what to expect pain wise I get the odd twinge or light cramp every now and again not necessarily in the same place but it feels normal I think? I've had no spotting but I've read you can have ectopics with no symptoms at all till rupture or seen on a scan so I'm not too hopeful but it is what it is I guess.

Thank you for sharing. Hearing everyone else's story helps me understand what to expect a little more

GeeHO98 · 23/12/2020 11:33

@Chica1990 it's at half 10 but I'll be there a while the last two times I've been for a scan on epu I've had to see a nurse before and after makes it more nerve wracking
