Vanishing twin syndrome?

Hi, I was just seeing if anyone has ever been through anything similar and can shed some light.

I found out I was pregnant a few weeks back, looking at the first day of my last period, it would’ve made me around 5 weeks pregnant.
Fast forwarding a few days, I started bleeding, not heavy enough to fill a pad, but enough to wear one. I clotted a little but had no pain. Went in to early pregnancy unit to which they taken my hcg levels and gave me an internal scan. Nothing was found on my internal scan and hcg levels were at 71, I was told to consider this as a miscarriage and to be on my way. I was heartbroken, devastated. I was rebooked in for hcg levels a week later so they could confirm this for me. I went back and my levels had risen to 164 (still not high I know) so again, I had to go in for another internal scan, to which they found a sac and only a sac. It estimated at around 4 weeks 6 days, she told me if there was a pregnancy going on it was way to early to see anything. My pregnancy symptoms are still extremely strong (sickness, tender breasts, smells turning my stomach, tiredness) booked in for another scan next week to see if baby is growing or not.
Could I have just gone through vanishing twin? Confused I’m so confused by it all: this time last week I had lost the baby, this week we found a sac with a completely different measurement.
Sorry for the long post, just hoping someone has been through something similar x
