Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice, last month I found out I had a MMC should have been 13 weeks but baby had died at about 8. They booked me in for an MVA that week... Procedure went fine but 3 weeks later I was still testing positive on pregnancy tests, went back to the EPU and they discovered I had retained products. They then booked me in for an emergency ERPC. It's now two weeks on from that procedure, I'm still testing positive on HPT and losing the odd clot throughout the day. Has anyone had a similar experience, is this normal ?

Hi @Collins99

Sorry you're going through such a torrid time. Did they say anything about how long to wait to test again after your latest procedure?

I'm in a similar boat as I'm 4 weeks post medical management and still getting positive pregnancy tests. Was told it should be negative by 3 weeks.

I had my bloods done yesterday and my HCG is 190. I'm going back on Monday to have them redone and to see if they're decreasing.

Maybe ask if you can have blood tests to see what levels your hormones are and if they're decreasing?

@Collins99
I had a surgical management last Wednesday, I was told to take a pregnancy test 3 weeks from the day of the procedure.

So sorry for your loss.
4 weeks ago I had a mmc at 12 weeks. I opted for medical management first. After 3 weeks I did the pregnancy test as advised and it was still a faint positive. A few days later I had contractions so was booked in for a scan. Scan revealed there was still alot of retained tissue (crazy really because I saw what passed and I had no idea there was that much... And even more!) Anyway I had an MVA last week I'm still bleeding lightly and passing clots I was told it was normal and to look out for heavy bleeding, large clots and bad odour. To be honest though the clots freak me out, I hate it and can't wait for them to stop. I've been told to do another test in 3 weeks. So the wait goes on. Hope your soon sorted, if in doubt I'd ring your unit or GP for some reassurance.

Thanks everyone for replying, sorry you have all had to go through this too. They did say wait 3 weeks to test again, but after having retained products the first time I guess I'm just nervous it has happened again. I will wait another week and then retest. Are any of you thinking about trying again?

I feel the same as you @Collins99 I've got that doubt in the back of my mind & thinking will it ever end. It feels so cruel and I'm nervous too. I don't know if it's just me but I feel like your sort of just left to it aswell. Nobody follows you up to check on you, and because everyone's so different it's unclear of things are normal or not. It's so hard!
I'd been trying for a year before I fell pregnant and I am fortunate to have a 5 year old. I love the idea of having another but honestly... I'm scared. I think I'd be a nervous wreck throughout another pregnancy and I worry about the impact that would have on my DD. How about you?

Collins99 · 10/11/2020 21:27

@Emilu89 exactly.... I feel like because it has already failed once it's going to fail again. Would have been easier to move on if it had been a 'normal' mc. You would think that they would have you in for a scan just to make sure wouldn't you? We had also been trying for a year too... this was my first pregnancy. Awhh lovely that you have a little one. Yes I am the same ... torn between desperately wanting a baby; and being too scared to try in case this happens again. I think we will try again when we can but I feel like having a happy and enjoyable pregnancy is out of the question for us now.
