Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me?
I had a miscarriage on 21st September at 5weeks and then a chemical pregnancy that started on 23rd October a few days ago. I know that doctors don't really get involved until you've had three miscarriages, I was wondering if this has happened to anyone and have you had a successful pregnancy afterwards?

Ive been looking into things and found some people take progesterone, has this worked for anyone? I was also told to look into MTHFR gene mutation?

Sorry to ask, I just don't know what to do and have no one to talk to.

I had lots of miscarriages before my successful pregnancy so it definitely can work out, don't give up hope this could just be a spout of bad luck unfortunately.

I was on progesterone however I didn't find it helped me and the drs I spoke to were sceptical of the actual benefits of it themselves but tried it anyway. I actually found that my miscarriages ended up missed when I was on progesterone as it stopped my body from passing them naturally. I stopped taking it after a few times of needing medical intervention to clear the miscarriage.

It's really difficult to say until you've had investigations though. There may be something else that would work better in your specific situation (if there is even a problem, there might not be!).

Mine ended up being genetic so there wasn't anything I could take, I just had to keep trying.

Thank you for your reply! I’m just trying to do all the research I can before my appointment Thursday. I’m also looking to have a gene screening as all my ultrasounds and internal scans seemed normal, I know I have scarring on the right Fallopian tube but they said they didn’t think that could be a cause.

It's quite tough to do any real research I think until you've been and seen them. There are a range of things that can cause miscarriages, some just requiring a little treatment, others like mine just patience!

Try not to worry, you're taking the right steps to find out what's going on. Wishing you all the best on Thursday

Oh and just remember, they don't usually do karyotype testing (genetics) as standard so don't assume they will check that in all the bloods and other investigations/tests they might do, you will need to ask specifically for it.

I had loads of miscarriages before having successful pregnancies.

No explanation which apparently is true of over 80% of all miscarriages, no explanation, no reason.

I was prescribed and tried aspirin, progesterone, high dose folic acid.
These all just prolonged my miscarriages, made them more drawn out, more bleeding, more painful and unfortunately my body held onto the miscarriages for longer.
In other words, these medications made a bad situation much much worse.
The consultant at the reoccurring miscarriage clinic did say that there is no evidence to support the use of the progesterone, but I was desperate of course, so agreed to give it a go.
