Hi,
I need to start by saying I do have the nexplanon implant and have done for 8 months. I haven’t had a period since it was inserted.
I am also on a biologic drug called etanercept.
I know it’s unlikely but not impossible that I have become pregnant, and also if I have, then it’s more than likely that I wouldn’t be able to carry the pregnancy for long because of my medication and the implant.
Four days ago I felt really feverish and then this awful ache started around my hips and very lower back. I had a little discomfort in my lower belly but not pain. I’ve had no sharp pains and everything has just been a dull ache. But an extremely bad one at that.
I called the doctor, who advised she wasn’t sure what to think, asked a lot of questions about whether I thought I may be pregnant. At the time I didn’t really think there was a chance until she put that bug in my brain. She said it doesn’t sound worrying and to see how it goes and call back or seek emergency treatment if the pain worsens.
Just after I got off the phone to her, I went to toilet (pee) and as I looked down I could see a big light pinky blob of discharge, about the size of my thumb.
Nothing else happened or came out of me until today. Now I have spotting of old brown blood.
I’m going to see how it goes as I know it may be the mother effer of all periods.
But I can’t help but worry that perhaps it is a miscarriage only because of this awful dull ache (which is even lower than where you would typically get menstrual cramps.
Also, and I will make myself sound crazy here, my dog is not cuddly in the slightest, but he is constantly protecting my belly from my partner and his kids (also making me paranoid)
I know it’s best to get medical advice and if anything more concerning happens I will. But due to covid and having a suppressed immune system due to etanercept, the gp isn’t keen on seeing me in the surgery. Saying that she also doesn’t seem to know what I mean by this dull ache in my back and hips.
I’m just wondering if any of you ladies have experienced a similar sensation. I can’t say it’s pain but it aches so much I’ve been rolling around not knowing what to do with myself. It can be managed for 1.5 hours with paracetamol and ibuprofen. Then the ache returns.
I think I can rule out the following because it feels completely different to anything I have ever experienced:
Sciatica
Menstrual cramps
Arthritic pain
Kidney infection
Constipation
Any advice on what you have personally experienced would be fantastic.
