When to expect ovulation and period after miscarriage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I had a late first trimester miscarriage between the 20th and 27th of July and over 2 weeks of bleeding. HCG was tracked as they were concerned about an ectopic. Levels were 250 on the 7th august, 273 on the 9th of august, 96 on the 11th august and 5 on the 18th of august. I’ve started bleeding brown and pink today and I’m not sure if it’s my period or residual bleeding. Can I expect my period yet or is it too soon after having low levels for it to be my period. Want to start tracking properly but unsure when day 1 is. Thanks :)

Thank you for starting this thread. I'm in a similar position. I had a missed miscarriage - found out at 10 + 2 that the baby's heartbeat had stopped about 10 days before. Did medical management on the 25 July and bled until 5 August.

Had what I had thought was my period starting this Wednesday, but then just turned into spotting and stopped, so now I don't know what on earth is happening.

I normally have fairly short cycles - around 25 days. But don't know if it's too early to expect my period to return.

I start a new job in two weeks, so need to hold off TTC until I've started there, so as to hopefully qualify for enhanced maternity, but I'm worrying now that this is going to be delayed if my period is dicking about.

Most websites say that your first period after a miscarriage is very heavy. My day of spotting certainly doesn't qualify. Wish I knew what was happening.

Hi, sorry to meet you here :(

After a mc, periods usually come back once hcg is back to zero.

@Countrygirl29, your hcg was 5 units three days ago, so I would assume that the bleeding you are experiencing now is likely to be your periods. And the hope associated with a new cycle starting if you want tor try again :)

@DappledOliveGroves, don't worry, they will return. But you could have some hcg left in your blood, which is why they havent reappered yet. But i dont think it should be long tbh.

Regarding the intensity, it all depends on how far you were in your pregnancy.

When i had a termination at 14w (hormones levels very high because it was not a mc, but a termination), it took 3 months for my periods (that were very heavy) to come back.
For my 4 miscarriages that followed, between 6 and 9 weeks, periods usually came back within 4-5w max, and the bleedings were normal.

Hope that helps, and take care xx
S.

I'm in a very similar situation, got my first negative test on the 13th Aug and yesterday started to have a discharge, its reddy brown and I have lower abdominal cramps, was wondering if it was the start of my period but I read the cervix cleaning itself after miscarriage can result in a mucus type blood. @Countrygirl29 are you the same? Sounds like we have a similar timeline

Help and advice needed please...
I had a missed miscarriage and had to have an MVA on 13th August. I know it was only a week since, but out of curiosity I took a pregnancy test yesterday to see if i was still testing positive. It came up with a faint line as I expected really.

This morning again just out of curiosity, I took a OPK and it came up positive??
Does anyone know, because I still have hCG in my system from the pregnancy, does that effect the OPK? Could the OPK be a false positive due to hCG? Or am I close to ovulate?

I dont really want to wait for AF before TTC again but I dont know when I should start tracking ovulation. Best to wait until I get BFN?

In the photo top is the pregnancy test, bottom is OPK. Im confused and just want to start TTC again 😕 😒

When to expect ovulation and period after miscarriage?

@neb91 I had my MVA on the 20th July and got my first negative test on 13th Aug. HCG drops at different levels for everyone but it can take some time. They recommend to check 3 weeks after the MVA and if its still cleary positive go in for bloods. Always test in morning to as it will be highest

@neb91 sorry meant to say you will ovulate before your next period so it is possible but you can't really date pregnancy properly until after first period

@Cornflake24 Thanks for the reply and yes I am the same! Got a femometer and app to start tracking for the next few months so I can get a handle on it :) I also don’t think I ovulated as been having unprotected sex whilst my levels were above 100...it’s been over 100 a week before my period...very strange!

@neb91 My HPTs have only just this week started to come back negative, still had a strong positive on Sunday so I feel your frustration. Took me 3/4 weeks to get to this point.

Just to update, period finally started properly yesterday. It's fairly heavy, though not remarkably so. So essentially it began 4 weeks to the day since I did the medical management of the miscarriage.

@DappledOliveGroves same! But it just doesn’t add up as my hcg levels were still 250 2 weeks ago....so surely I can’t have ovulated?

@Cornflake24 my partner and I are going to wait until after Christmas...give my body time to get rid of all the pill hormones, get on the folic acid and do it properly this time. Wishing you all the luck and always here, should you need a listening ear. Thoroughly recommend a Femometer though :)
