Good morning,

Just wondering if anyone has had a d&c, and what to expect in terms of the procedure and recovery time?
I'm awaiting on a call today whether I need to have one (if my hcg levels haven't come down)
I've never known anyone to have one and the idea of it just makes me a bit nervous.

Any reassurance would be appreciated.

Thank you x

Hi Coffee

I had an SMM on Monday. Woke up a bit groggy, but no real pain and some slight bleeding. They kept me on the ward all day just to do blood tests at the end of the day, but I wasn't in much pain and they gave me paracetamol. I have this week off work, but to be honest apart from very mild bleeding and pain, I am basically OK. Emotionally, a whole different story, but physically there has been hardly any pain - I was up and about essentially the day after.

Hope this helps xx

Hi Coffee,

I might be a bit late to reply but I've had two. The recovery is quick and painless. I had minimal bleeding. I just felt tired and needed an evening on the sofa and then my muscles were a bit weak for a couple of days after but that's it. Good luck x

Hi - I had one in December in Hungary. Once I was out of hospital there was pretty much no recovery time as I felt fine physically. I flew back to the UK the next day and had minimal bleeding.
Dont get me wrong, emotionally it was horrible. But from a purely physical side, there was no real recovery time, and I have heard my experiences were fairly typical (besides being abroad).

Hi everyone,
Thank you for your responses and I'm sorry for your losses.
The doctors decided not to do a d&c as they feel the leftover tissue is near my tube (as previous pregnancy was ectopic) so they would not be able to get to it with a d&c.
Currently waiting to see if my hcg drops itself, and if not will need other interventions.

Thank you for your advice though. It was very helpful at the time when they did say a d&c was a potential option
